JL audio resistor bad

My amp has some darkening around the power input area on the PCB. There is a resistor (gold, black, black, red) -- cant read what one it is) but is in near Q50, Q51 and C35. Those two transistors and the cap all look to be heated as well.. And the resistor reads bad. Is there a place to send these for repair.

Check your fuse at the battery. While AGU glass fuses "look" good, when you read the voltage AFTER the fuse, you can only be getting 5 volts or so. I can't tell you how many times I have seen this.

SOURCE: will a JL audio 1000/1 amp run a orion HCCA 15

Hello evopower,

The JL 1000/1 will power the Orion HCCA OK.

It is stable only to 1.5 ohms so your best choice would be the 15.4 with dual 4ohm voice coils. In parallel, this would offer a 2ohm impedance. The 15.2 could only be wired for either a 1ohm load (too low) or a 4ohm load (less power).

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: JL Audio 500/1 Amp

Do you get sound if you set it on full? If you don't get sound in any way it maybe broked. Do you smell burnt components? Is the protection light on? If so you probably have a shorted transistor inside. If everything looks normal but has no sound at all. The preamp circuit is probably not getting power due to a malfuctioning power supply circuit. The way a car amp works is it has a DC-DC converter, which steps up the 12 volts to two supply voltage. One is usually a -35V, an the other is +35V. To a totall of 70V. Power transistors don't operate efficiently on 12 volts thats why it is designed like that. A PWM (pulse width modulation) circuit which consist of a chip, and various components connected to it drives an array of Power FET(field effect transsitors) usually conected in parallel to add power. These FET drive two or more "powder iron core" transformer. The other side of the transformer is connected to large diodes, providing power to the transsistors that actually drive your speakers. The supply voltage to the section preamp section is usually the same as the battery voltage. This preamp section filter high frequency for things such as low pass, high pass etc, and through many stage of amplification using small transistor, the final stage is the large transistors that drive the speakers. If you can tell me more info I can help you with a step by step guide on fixing the amp.

SOURCE: I have a JL Audio 500/1 and when I hooked it up it

I have the same amp also. I was playing with the switches and found out if you look rite by the gain level their is a switch that says low/high voltage, make sure its on low. You will only use it on high voltage if you want too use the rca output only. It mite work for some of you and some of you it mite be internal problems.

JL Audio 250/1 blown power trans blown resistors possibly shorted transformer How do I test

You should get the schematic for it. I can tell if your reference to trans is for transistor or transformer. If you mean transistor, in that power circuit they are most likely http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Vishay-Siliconix/IRFZ44PBF/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvARmQSk64rFx%252biHG2Aqv9T. See if you can see any references to the parts on the board. One of the others that fails often is: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=4kLU8WoGk0vGgdnitUP0Eg%3d%3d and

Amp want turn on

Listen everyone who is having any JL 500/1 or 1000/1 amps. There are many reasons why your amps have failed. Most of the problem is the power supply mosfets shorted out and output mosfets shorted too. Those are the 2 biggest problems when you run these amps hard. Also the main power supply capacitors and the gate resistors mostly burn out when a power supply mosfet shorts. Some people if they remove the back cover may see signs of of the problem area and others will not. I have been repairing these paticular amps at least 2 to 3 a week with other amps I get in. It seems that the older ones people bought working are now failing. So this is just a quick overview of what your problem is and is part or is the problem guaranteed. Sometimes I get tired of seeing them coming in but it's what I do and know exactly where to start. I don't know at this time but I think for $160 if you send your JL 500/1 to JL they will just replace the board. Don't quote me on that cause prices change. I would call and ask. My repair depending on the damage is around $80-90 to repair these 500/1. The 1000/1 can be the same or higher. I can't tell you if I don't have it in front of me diagnosing it. As I said though, the problems are basicly the same for the most part and the amp will have to be repaired. I help people also who are electronicaly inclined and if they feel confident and can unsolder and solder and know thier way around a volt ohm digital meter I can walk them through the steps. It's not that hard everybody, really it is'nt. A little confidence and soldering and reading a volt meter and you can repair your own amp. Contact me if you need any help. Thank you!

Cant connect my q35 speaker, help please!! Theres 4 connections??

Hi, They should have a gold bar "jumper"between the two black/and the two red connectors. If not, it is missing, but the reason for that is you can use seperate amps for the woofer and the tweeter/mid.Called "Bi-amping."You can just use a extra wire to connect both inputs together. Black to black and red to red.

Low ohm light on 500/5 front left channel doesn't work.

The first thing is to meter all the speakers with a volt/ohm meter. They should read somewhere between 2-6 ohms. If they meter good try swapping the RCA's and see if there is any difference. But if both of those check out ok than. Unfortunately it would appear that your amp has a bad output channel. What seems to happen is that when the amp is cycled off and on, off and on etc. the solder on the PCB can get brittle causing problems. The only answer i can offer is to send it to JL to repair or find a good repair shop that works on car audio amps. It's getting harder to find a good tech but they are out there. If you send it to JL they have a set repair rate of $180.00 which covers the return postage while the customer pays the shipping cost getting it there. They do an excellent job and pretty much go thru the whole board and replace not only what is wrong but will also perform any mods or changes since date of manufacture.

I just need to find the pcb mounted inputs for the 12Vdc, Remote, and ground for the JL Audio 1000/1. Where can I purchase this part at?

the company probably wont sell u one so u either have to try to find one on ebay? or u will have to buy another amp that is "broke" and use that one.

Running Hot

Running the amplifier at a low level shouldn't cause it to get hot quickly.

Disconnect all speakers and signal cables from the amp and power it up. Do this when the heatsink (black part at the back of the amp) is cool. Power it up and monitor the temperature of the sink. If it gets hot in one relatively small area, that will tell you that there is likely a problem with one channel. If it never gets hot, the problem may be with the input signal or the speaker wiring.

Let me know what you find.

My JL audio 1000/1 amp does not work

Best bet is to send it back to JL, they do not sell the PCB with all of the components loaded on it. Most likely the transistors in the power supply have fried. Open it up and see if you can find any physical damage. Google the part numbers of the bad parts, and you should be able to fix it relatively easily. www.digikey.com is a great place for parts. Read this for more testing procedure: http://www.bcae1.com/ampfail.htm The whole site is wonderful, really.
