Jenn Air JMV8196AAS

I was cooking and then the fan came on .... I pushed the fan button off but the fan will not shut off. I unplugged the microwave and the fan will still not shut off. Is the unit safe to use? And what could cause the fan not to shut off?

Re: Jenn Air JMV8196AAS

It's most likely a shorted hood fan thermostat or a stuck relay on the control circuit board. We repair these controllers nationwide with our $32.50 service. You can find out about that through the link in my profile. Concerning the thermostat, if you or a friend is handy, it's not hard to check and replace. It should be electrically open when it's not hot. My profile links you to my Web site, where I offer free critical text files on safety & disassembly. Lastly, you can visit the Sears parts Web site where they have helpful exploded view diagrams and where you can order a thermostat if needed. Sears carries parts for many brands. Post back if you need more help.

The problem is caused by one of three things, the magnetron "heats food" the high voltage diode "sometimes shorts" or the high voltage capacitor " shorts"

My Jenn-aire microwave says locked and has a picture of a padlock. I was microwaving bacon and had just put it some to cook ( my second batch per se) and everything was locked up. I tried pushing options...

Most likely you set a child lock (front panel lock) by holding a button too long (3 seconds). Without a model number, I can't be absolutely sure of the keypad lock for your Jenn-Aire microwave. Usually, the key will have a small padlock icon on it. Press and hold this key. On my microwave you press and hold Start to toggle the lock off.

On a Jenn-Aire JMW2430 and similar models, the Button Lock is activated by a several step process (More and Button Lock). However, pressing and holding the Start button will deactivate it.

I hope this helps.

GE XL1800 Micro fan won't shut off after light burned out

The problem appears, at least in part, to the door latch circuitry which cannot be serviced by the owner. If the unit is still in warranty, call GE customer care. If not, replacing the unit is your best bet. I just bought a new GE 1100 watt oven with great features for less than $100 If the door dosen't latch correctly, you could be exposed to dangerous microwave energy.

Everything works but no heating?

With inside light and turntable on, louder sound, and no heat, this is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
