Sounds like shock damage, take out the hard drive and turn on the laptop, listen to see if the system fan is running, time it to see if this happends again, if it doesn't turn off after a certain length of time, you know it was only the hard drive that was shocked and would need to be replaced.
if it does, bad news!! let me know for further instruction

does it happen also when you're on a different network than your home network?
check if the wireless is off.
also check your ethernet card settings. does it get automatic address from your router? try setting a static one.

Won't connect online

This just happened to my siste and a frind of mine recently. It can be a few things.

Are you connecting via wire from your laptop or wireless? I'm hoping they did not remove a wireless router and not explain this to you.

With a new modem your main IP address would change. First I would try turning off everything, unplug the modem and any connected switches or routers. Wait at least 10 minutes, better yet, unplug them and go to work, go shopping etc.. Then plug the modem back in, wait 2-5 minutes, plug in any routers and switches, wait 1 minute then turn the laptop back on. See if that solves the problem.

Check you power save options on your control panel that would cause that to happen as the back light goes dimmer to save power on your PC.

When you switch the laptop on the blue lights on the keybord is on for a few minutes before switched off, but the screen stays black. When you touch over the blue light keys it's turn automatic on? HP...

The touch buttons are there so you can turn your laptop on into the Quickplay feature without having to load into Windows. So basically if you just want to use it for multimedia. If you was to press power button, these will just load straight into Windows. It is meant to do this. If you are saying that the screen doesnt come on when you turn the laptop on and are basically saying that the laptop doesnt boot at all and is just a blank screen, then it is very very likely you have a motherboard failure. Contact HP to see if they have still covered your laptop with warranty as this is a known issue on these laptops and some warranty had been extended

Turns off and doesn't complete restore to factory default

Actually it sounds like a heat issue. Is the bottom of the laptop getting hot? If so....

Using an air compressor (be carefull you do not need 150 psi) or a can of compressed air blow out all of the vents. Laptops have heatsinks that are so small it does not take much to plug them up.

You can also prop it up on something or get one of the fans to set it on and see if that does any good.

Hope this helps

When I turn on the tv it automatically turns off itself

Back again. It appears that the key is the order in which you connect things and switch the TV on or off. It took some experimenting to get to what's reliable. I'll spare you the details and confine myself to what works.
1. Start with the monitor cable disconnected at the laptop.
2. Turn on the TV with the source set to your regular satellite (or cable) signal.
3. With the laptop on, plug the monitor cable into it.
4. Switch the source (at the TV) to receive the VGA signal (from the laptop).
Voila!
To turn off, reverse the procedure.

check whether the hiberbnate facility is on or off as it is turning off after 8 min or so.
this can also happen due to overheating of the processor , it can turn off itself automatically
try to increase the ram on the system
