I need to replace the magenta cartridge. It has started making noises and stopped printing. I follow the menu instructions and can get to the replace:magenta, but when I give it the final command, it tells me that it can't rotate the drum. Cyan is always in the opening. I had similar problems when I replaced all of the cartridges a few years ago, but somehow managed to get them all replaced. The machine is about 4 years old.
You can rotate the toner carriage manually, in fact it's a lot faster than doing them one at a time via the control panel by opening and closing for each color. There's a release button you need to press on the right hand side of the open panel. The trick is to rotate it so that the "escape channel" for the cartridge lines up properly. See this discussion thread for a picture of the release button.

This code means "An error occurred with the magenta print cartridge drive motor during startup orrotation." I recommend the following steps. 1. Check that connectors J5003 on the magenta print-cartridge drive motor and J207 on the driver PCA are seated correctly. 2. Replace the magenta print-cartridge drive motor. 3. Replace the driver PCA. 186 Here is a link to the service manual: http://www.feedroller.com/store/Service%20Manual/CLJ3000_3600_3800_CP3505sm.pdf Hope this helps.
See if the ink cartridges are installed correctly. It may be that your Magenta and Yellow ink cartridges need to change places. So, try replacing the cartridges, put the Magenta where the Yellow is, and the Yellow where the Magenta is. Usually the ink cartridge placement follows this order: Cyan, Magenta, Yelow, Black, so see if the cartridges on your printer match. Also, check to see if there are color markings on the print-head itself, and make sure the markings match the cartridge inks. If the ink cartridges are aligned properly and the Black is printing out just fine, you may be looking at a software issue, and you'll need to remove the printer from the Devices list (go to Start -> Control Panel -> System), unplug the printer from the PC and restart. Then, install the drivers first, and after that plug in the printer cable to the PC.

1. Check that connectors J5003 on the magenta print-cartridge drive motor and J207 on the DC controller are seated correctly. If they are then: 2. Replace the magenta print-cartridge drive motor. If that doesn't work then: 3. Replace the DC controller.
HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer - Installing Print Cartridges
When a print cartridge approaches the end of useful life, the control panel displays a message
recommending that to order a replacement. The printer can continue to print using the current print
cartridge until the control panel displays a message instructing to replace the cartridge.
The printer uses four colors and has a different print cartridge for each color: black (K), cyan (C),
magenta (M), and yellow (Y).
Replace a print cartridge when the printer control panel displays one of the following messages:
Replace yellow cartridge, Replace magenta cartridge, Replace cyan cartridge, Replace black
The control panel display also indicates the color that should be replaced (unless a
genuine HP cartridge is not currently installed).
Change the print cartridge
Turn off the printer.
Open the front door.
Do not place anything on the transfer belt (ETB), which is located on the
inside of the front door.
Remove the used print cartridge from the printer.
Remove the new print cartridge from the bag. Place the used print cartridge in the bag for
Grasp both sides of the print cartridge by the blue handles and distribute the toner by gently
rocking the print cartridge from front to back.
Do not touch the shutter or the surface of the roller.
Remove the orange shipping locks and the orange shipping tape from the new print cartridge.
Discard the shipping tape and shipping locks according to local regulations.
Align the print cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, and using the handles, insert the print
cartridge until it is firmly seated.
Firmly close the front door.
Turn on the printer. After a short time, the control panel should display Ready.
If a cartridge is in the wrong slot or is the wrong type for the printer, the control
panel will display one of the following messages: Incorrect yellow, Incorrect magenta,
Incorrect cyan, Incorrect black.
Installation is complete. Place the used print cartridge in the box in which the new cartridge
arrived. See the enclosed recycling guide for recycling instructions.
If a non-HP print cartridge is in the printer, check the printer control panel for further instructions.
When replacing or changing a black print cartridge, a cleaning page will
