How do I disable my antivirus program in Windows? he answer to this question really depends on the antivirus program that is installed on your computer. However, thankfully all antivirus protection programs can be temporarily disabled by following the below steps.

    Locate the antivirus protection program icon on the systray. Below are some examples of what your program icon may look like. Additional examples can be found on document CHSYS. Also moving the mouse over each of the icons and will also display what each of the icons are.

    McAfeeNorton, and AVG examples.

    1. Once the antivirus icon has been located right-click the icon and select disable, stop, or something similar. In some cases you may need to launch or open the program control center and disable the program from the menu that appears.
    If following the above recommendations do not help you with disabling your antivirus scanner you can also boot into Safe Mode, which will not load any third-party programs including the antivirus program. This is helpful for times you're concerned about the antivirus program interrupting a program during an install.
    Additional information about booting into safe  mode can be found on document CHSAFE.

    To specify that you're using a firewall that Windows does not find

    1.

    Click Start and then click Control Panel.

    2.

    Double-click Security Center. (You can also access the Security Center by clicking on an alert sent by the Security Center. For example, if you receive an alert telling you that your antivirus software is out of date, when you click that alert, the Security Center will open.)

    3.

    In the Security Center, under Firewall, click Recommendations. (The Recommendations button is not available when your Firewall setting is marked ON.)

    4.

    In the Recommendations dialog box, select the I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself check box, and then click OK.
    When you use this procedure, the Security Center displays your Firewall setting as Unknown, and does not send you alerts.

Hi,

While downloading, May I suggest you try to temporarily disable your antivirus and/or firewall. Alternately, pls verify that the browser can accept cookies, the temporary internet files have been cleared, you have sufficient space in your temporary folder or recycle bin, and in some instances, allow pop-ups.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    Appreciate the postback. Additional ideas:

    • To disconnect antivirus would be largely dependent on what antivirus was installed in your computer. In some version, doing a right click on the antivirus icon in the System Tray would reveal option to disable. In some other instances, doubling clicking on the same icon would pop open a new window with the options to disable;

    • firewall - would be inside the Control Panel, opening the firewall properties would again give you options;

    • the fatses/easiest to clean cookies (and for that matter all trash) would be to go to Start, Accessories, System Tools, Disc Cleanup;

    • to enable cookies depends on what browser is being used (IE or Mozilla). Normally there would be an option in the Tools menu.

    The risks of turining it off depends.

    While it is off, if you only visit safe webpages such as Fixya and you do not recive any files you should be safe.

    Download the map using a different computer, is the best thing to do.

    Then you try fixing the computer, either by doing a system restore or reinstalling internet explorer.

    Sorry, I did not understand the problem at first.

    It happens quite ofte, see:

    TomTom HOME Connection Help - AVForums.com
    It is because Home2 is stilll in beta and the server is often jammed.

    Go back to Home1 and download the map.

Can I get German road and streets. Where? What cost?

The easiest way to get maps is through "TomTom Home" software that you should have installed in your computer. If you don't have it, install it from www.tomtom.com and start TomTom Home. Then plug the GPS docking station to a USB port on your computer and place your GPS on the docking station. Turn the GPS on. If you are asked if you want to connect your GPS to the computer, answer YES. After the GPS is recognized by TomTom Home, you'll get a set of icons on the window screen. One of them should be labeled "get maps". Click on it. Most of the time, only a few maps will be shown. To get access to all the maps you can buy, choose "ALL" from the drop down menu that says "Recommended". Map prices vary by region, but in the USA we can purchase a map that contains Germany and a handful of other adjacent countries for about $90 US dollars.

Plese, report back if you need further assistance.

My Tom Tom Go 300 keeps coming up No Maps found. What can I do?

Either the map(s) in your GPS were deleted or you bought a unit without maps. Your only option is to purchase the maps that you need from TomTom. They cost about $70-$100 US dollars in the US. I do not know where you live or what maps you need, so I can't give you more information right now.

Map down loads

From what I understand, you have a 30 day guarantee for the latest update map. That 30 day stretch starts from the day of first use (not the time of purchase). It it is not a store demonstration unit then you still have 15 days. It goes without saying that if the licensed map has not updated within the 30 days period, there is nothing to update. You can however still use the Map Share feature to download the minor map corrections.

I suggest you frequently connect your unit to the calculator and the Tomtom Home software will do the automatic updates. If a new map is issued within your 30 period you will get. Even if you missed it you should console yourself in the knowledge that major map update are not that frequent. You can also buy other maps from Tomtom.

Are there any new update maps for my new 340 s Tom Tom

If you bought your TomTom brand new, the first time you installed the TomTom Home software, you may have received a message that a free map upgrade was available. If you did not receive that message, then either the unit is up to date, or it was not new.
You can check the version of map you're using by going to the TomTom Home software, and from the main menu, click the "More" button to get to page 2. From there, choose "Manage my ONE XL", and click on the "Items on Device" tab.
Click the "+" sign to the left of the word "Maps", then click the "More Info" link to discover the version of map you are using. The most current version (as of December 1, 2009) is 840.2568.
If that is not your version and you believe you're entitled to it, call TomTom technical support and state your case. Otherwise, if you want this version of map, you will need to purchase it.
When trying to load a new map onto your device, make sure you first run the backup routine (in TomTom Home) to back up the old map. After downloading a new map, but before it can be installed, you'll need to remove the old map, since there isn't enough room on the device to have both maps loaded simultaneously.
Hope this helps.

Down loading Europe on my TomTom 1/3

Yes you can I have europe and canada on mine.

just plug your tomtom into your computer and start tomtom home

On the computer screen for tomtom select ADD MAPS

Here you can select and buy the maps you need.

Once you have confirmed the purchase you will be given instructions on how to download etc

Some maps may take a little time to install to the tomtom itself.

you should also ensure there is enough space on your tomtom
If not you will have to get an SD memory card.

I use a 4gb one that still has lots of room to spare
