Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF60XBR800 60" Rear Projection Television

Picture cycles off and on

After turning on sony grand wega lcd projection tv, it turns off then on, then off, then on, etc. It began a couple weeks ago and would cycle a few times. The next time it was turned on it might be OK. Then it would cycle a few more times. Until today it would eventually turn on and stay on. Now it just cycles off and on every three to five minutes. I No lights are on except for the red stand-by light when the picture is off. (it does the same with other inputs.)

hi. My Sony WEGA projector tv does the same, but now it doesn't stay on too long, it stays on for only like 2-3 min and it is turning off ...and then on and off again .. :( does anyone know what that may be???

I have exactly the same problem: pictures on, then to standby (picture off). Cycles back and forth. Standby light flashes when the pictures is off. Seems the period of time between cycles is getting shorter. Couldn't find anything in the manual that addressed this issue.

Thanks. I took a chance and replaced the lamp a couple days ago with Sony brand and that seemed to do the trick.

I have the same problem as reported, no lights flash when it turns off, but when it turns back on you hear a buzzing sound. My question is the TV is only like 2 years old. Why is the bulb bad already?

I replaced a burned out xl-2000u bulb with an after-market Philips bulb on my Sony KF60XBR800. After a fews weeks, I started experiencing intermittent black-outs with the "stand by" red light appearing. After a couple weeks it became intolerable. I then purchased an OEM Sony lamp and the problem has been gone for months. I read somewhere that the Sony circuitry monitors either resistance or watts and shuts the thing down for board protection. It was said that it is so sensitive it can can use only the Sony bulb. I'm a believer. If the bulb is going bad, i wouldn't doubt the protection circuit can kick in.

I had the Sony service tech in and he replaced the bulb and adjusted the picture.

No more cycling on and off. No more red shadows on the right and no more ghost images on the left.

Problem solved The lamp was $200.

TV WONT COME ON AND THE LIGHT KEEPS FLASHIN RED AN GREEN ON THE STANDBY BUTTON

  1. If your Sony Wega will not turn on, the front green light blinks, you hear a faint whirring sound and the green light turns red and flashes, it probably means the lamp inside the set is no longer working. If you noticed the screen beginning to dim in the preceding days or weeks, this most likely is the cause.

  2. If the green light flashes and the picture comes on momentarily but then goes off, and the green button flashes until the set restarts, then the seal around the lamp mount is loose and needs to be refitted.

  3. If the picture on your Grand Wega cuts in and out and the green standby light flashes, both of the set's STKs need to be replaced. STKs are small chips on your television's circuit boards and are identifiable by their labels. The specific STKs used in your Grand Wega TV will be identifiable by the numbered labels on top of the STKs.

  4. When you plug in your Sony Wega and hear a loud popping sound, it's probably caused by a defect in the high-voltage circuit. Let the professionals take care of this one.

  5. If, after turning on your Sony Wega, you can hear your set but the screen is black, you most likely need to replace your projection lamp.

Picture will come on and then go off after a couple minutes

This usually means the Lamp is failing. Replacing the Lamp usually fixes it. I would only use a Sony Replacement.
You can order one from Sony at 1800-222-SONY or you may be able to pick one up from a local Sony Retailer.
