Question about GPS
I have recently purchased a Nortek Roadmaster 354. I think it is a 2006 model. Some of the maps are out of date so I've been looking to the Nortek website (www.nortekonline.com) for support or advice on this. The only items in the downloads section are for the manuals which I have, one of which states that i will need to downloads certain files from the website to update the device - updates that do not exist it appears. I have contacted customer services only to get an automated message back to say that the person dealing with this had gone out of the office and wouldn't be back until 01/01/2010. The rest of the message was in Italian. I don't know what to do, there is no contact number that I could find on the website. I've googled for any information on updates, the possibility of getting updates but seem to be drawing blanks. Can you help? I don't know what else to do or where else to try! Thank you!
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: 2009 map update not loading
Fixed. Called Garmin. It seems that version 4.90 FW on the Nuvi 350 (which came shipped on my 350) has a bug where it cannot communicate with the Garmin software either to update maps or update FW. Tech from Garmin e-mailed me a patch that I copied into the Garmin folder on the Nuvi itself, via USB and Windows Explorer. I then rebooted it; the patch installed itself which then allowed the unit to communicate with the map upgrade software and all is well. 2009 map update is now installed and the Nuvi is working fine again. Haven't tried upgrading to newer FW yet; will probably leave well enough alone.

I have managed to solve the problem of loading a new map on my Go700 using a Mac. I discovered that Tomtom is incompatible with the Leopad operaying system, despite the protestations of the idiots at Tomtom ,so I reverted to an older Mac using Tiger.
Taking the instructions given to crinold, I tried to erase the disc on the 700 using home 1.5 - and it didn't work. So I went to disc utilities, highlighted and erased the Tomtom disc, and opened home 2,5. After being refused entry several times, like being told to load an already loaded device, I persevered, and managed, slowly, to add the map I had bought for 78 euros. T]One point oif interes is that when I bought the map, they site stated it would cost 63 pounds sterling, but switched it to euros when the invoice arrived. at a rate very favourable to Tomtom - funny, that.
This is sharp practice, probably illegal in many countries,, but, to be honest, dealing with the mysterious Tomtom company is so frustrating, that I don't have the time or inclination to fight them for the money they cheated from me.
How they survive with such an awful product and extremely bad after sales service is hard to understand - perhaps they won't ... we live in hope.
