Go to http://www.crucial.com/ and click "Scan My System". Click on "Run" when prompted. It will tell you what you have, number of empty slots, what kind, and make suggestions to upgrade. It works well.

Adding computer memory

The only thing you could do is put in a 256MB module in the slot that you have access to. Only one socket is user upgradable. The second socket is only upgradable by a Dell service center. They would have to install a second 256 module to get you to the 512MB max.

Compaq Presario Notebook V3000T I replaced the 2-256mb memory cards with 2-1g memory cards. System boots up but only reads 1024mb?

Thanks to Microsoft Knowledge Base for help with my answer:

First, find out what the maximum amount of memory is. This is generally listed by most of the manufacturers. This will let you know what upgrade potential the system has. Next, determine how the memory configuration is when you buy the system. For example, a laptop that has 2GB of memory can be configured as either a single 2GB module or two 1GB modules. The single memory module allows for better upgrade potential because by adding another module you are gaining more memory without sacrificing any current memory. Upgrading the two module situation with a 2GB upgrade would result in the loss of one 1GB module and a memory total of 3GB.

Adding memory to a a75-s211

How much memory did it have before you removed the 256Mb RAM?
If it had 756Mb RAM then the memory in the laptop has 512 Mb plus 256 Mb RAM modules, the 256Mb in the slot you can see and possibly 512Mb in a slot under the keyboard or soldered on the motherboard.
Therefore by removing the 256Mb and replacing with 1Gb memory module will give you a total of 1.5Gb

Installing Memory

Hi

Yes, you can replace/upgrate the memory module under the keyboard.

Before you proceed, note that Dell Inspiron 2650 uses DDR200 3.3V SODIMM modules. Also, memory module capacities supported are 128MB and 256MB with a Maximum memory of 512MB. If the current memory installed is 128MB, you need to order 2x 256MB modules to replace/upgrade both memory slots. If the installed capacity is 256MB, you just need another 256MB for the slot underneath the laptop.

Check "Removing the Keyboard" for guide removing the keyboard to access the 2nd memory slot.

Read "Preparing to Work Inside the Computer" before committing to the above procedure.

Let me know how you get on.

Mike

Please help with memory upgrade problem

Roy,

This is a common problem with memory. Memory that matches what you have in your computer may not be compatible. The best way to find compatible memory for your computer is to visit websites of manufacturers who produce memory. Here are two sites where you can begin. You will need your computer brand and model in order to search for compatible memory.

you an just replace the memory card if that is 64mb you may replace it with 128mb or 256mb but it in order to make sure if it works or compatible to your laptop you need to know the frequency, the brand that is compaitble to this check your laptop manual. if you are not sure with the brand and frequency you may take out the memory card in your laptop then present to the supplier purchase a higher memory
