Umax powerlook III scanner not working with latest mac system sof

Scanner software ceased working with latest system, found scanner software that did work and all ok, months later at next upgrade of system stopped working, contacted software vendor who managed fix. Next time operating system was upgraded (latest mac) scanner software ceased to communicate with scanner - it doesn't see it. Software vendor reckons the problem lies with apple. I have a very good scanner that I dont want to replace. Any ideas please?

well..when an operating system migrates like apples, it is up to the vendor(Umax) to keep up, not the other way around. go back to Umax, website, and look for model specific updates to the new apple o/s..only way to do it.

Pity. Windows does the same.
Old machines need old OS because the manufacturer doesn't keep up.

Your OS is not compatible. Period. Either go back to what worked for you or get a new scanner that will work in new environment.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

After checking the UMAX site for XP drivers, choose whatever is the latest drivers they provide, and then try to install them as normal. If it installs normally but does not run correctly, right-click on the executable for the scanner program and choose PROPERTIES and then adjust the COMPATIBILITY MODE to Win2000 or WIn98 and try running it again.

If the drivers for the scanner will not install, I had good luck tricking the operating system into installing the drivers by changing the OS description in the .INI file of the driver package, though this is something not so easy to do.

Good luck...

SOURCE: Umax PowerLook 2100XL - Driver

Go to

this download page on the UMAX site

and select your device (Scanner), then your scanner model (Powerlook 2100XL) , and your operating system, then press the "SEARCH" key.

Each page in the Download Area is in two languages - first German, then English, so page down to the English section.
Follow the instructions to download the correct driver for your scanner / operating system combination.

Note there is currently no driver available for Windows Vista.

When you've tried this solution, don't forget to rate it !

Good Luck.

How do I connect my Umax Powerlook III to my max 10.6.8 os x?

This scanner is Fast SCSI . It was made in 2001. You will need a card in your Mac for a SCSI interface. The cost of the card and scsi cable, if your Mac will accept one, will probably exceed the cost of a newer, high performance scanner. Time to move on? (Umax were not the greatest scanners even when they were made. Umax was a cheaper brand with mediocre software. So how will you get the image into the Mac once you have a connection? Power PC (OS 9) Mac software will not run on OS X.)

All scans with Umax Powerlook III are totally black around the edges with strange color bars where the images should be. This is using Umax Silverfast 6.0 software on a Mac running OS 10.4.11

sounds like the scanner is dead. only way to be sure that its not a software issue is to try that scanner on another machine. if you get the same issue on seperate machines, its a good bet that scanner is toast. Fortunately, you can usually go to the Salvation Army or Good will, and get a used scanner for 15 bucks, all you need is downloaded drivers and appropriate cables.

Trying to connect Umax PL 2100XL (SCSI) to G4 - scanner not found

I just told someone else this solution...KILL the SCSI junk...I had nothing but trouble with it with my Mac....I got a Ratoc Firewire to UltraSCSI Converter...to solve the regular SCSI to ultra SCSI problem...I also bought an adapter....It works great...no need for a SCSI card...or a driver...you just plug directly into your firewire port! If anyone can help me with my TA adapter startup problem...I'll be thrilled! Carole

Vertical colored lines in a scan

If the lines appear in the same location everytime, then it is from the scanner glass. Clean it thoroughly. No solvents except Isopropyl alcohol for cleaning.
