Question about Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DOIS USM Lens

1 Answer

Canon EF 70-300mm Lens. Threaded end on filter side split.

Hello- And Thanks for your help in advance. I dropped my camera bag and after the drop, I noticed the end of my lens had broke. It split where the filter threads into the lens end. The part that broke was right along the threads themselves. Looking at the lens, I see three small screws which seem to be connected below to the part that broke so I was assuming this piece could be replaced. I can send photos of the lens if needed. I guess I'm looking for that replacement part and a price if possible.

Here is everything I see on the lens:Canon Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm  1:4-5.6 III USM  Ultrasonic  1.5m/4.9ft

If your AF motor is hunting then the lens probably needs to be looked at. I wouldn't recommend this as something to do at home so you will need to either find a repair shop if it is out of warranty or return it to Canon if it is in warranty.

I bought Canon EF 75-300mm III Zoom Lens, but the len is very loose, is it problem

Long and short of it...if the photos are close to "decent", dont worry bout it :) It aint no L Lens but can still throw out a good pic every now n then. Tip it from one end to the other whilst holding it...if you hear something go \'ring-a-chicka-chink-chink-clunk\', then youve got problems, otherwise grin and bear the looseness - mine lasted 6 years of hard yacker before i dropped it in the drink!

How to insert filter in 500mm mirror lens

Look inside the back end of the lens (the end which attaches to the camera). You'll see a threaded ring around the optical part. The filter simply screws onto the threaded ring.

I dropped the lens and now get error 99 when trying to use it.

Probably cracked an internal circuit board on the lens- not an item you can easily repair yourself

Lens has been dropped with filter on it, filter shattered and has since been removed. There seems to be some glass fragments inside the lens and some slight marks on the outer surface of the lens. Lens...

Yes it is possibly only a shattered mirror inside which is easily replaced. The scratches on the outer glass can also o fix be dealt with by fitting a new lens to the frame. It wont be a cheap fix and I can only guess that you would be loooking at about 140 pounds it.

But think about claiming on your household insurance as an accidental breakage.

Cant adjust below f/5.6 on a eos 40d

You are correct in thinking that it should be possible to set the aperture wider than f/5.6 at the wide end of the zoom range.  My best guess is that the lens is defective.  I'd suggest returning it for a replacement.
