If it happens at 'random' times, and won't restart immediately, most likley it's overheating due to dust blocked heat sink / fan (or a bad fan)

If it always happens at the some point in the boot up before you get the password prompt .. most likley it's s/w

Hit F8 during power up.. select 'last known good'

If that fails, F8 and select 'Safe Mode'

If you get into Safe Mode, uninstall whatever you last installed that is causing the lock up (most likley some hardware driver or some virus/root kit you got via email)

Your system is probably hanging because of high temperature. Check cpu temperature in bios hardware monitor. If it is to high check the heatsink is fitted properly also apply thermal paste between processor and heatsink.

There are different possibilities for system hang up. I want you to find it your self from following my simple instruction.

1. (when computer is turn on) Check temperature... overheating can cause system to hang up, it can cause the system to reboot, it can cause the fatal error message and turns your screen to blue. Overheating is cause by exhaust fan or blower not working. Find this blower or exhaust fan on top of the processor, as built in fan in your video card, attached on your power supply and on the casing of your computer. Replace non working fan or blower.

2. Check video card...faulty video card can cause your system to hang up. It can cause also your system to go on blank screen. Most common problem is loosen connection of video card from the motherboard. Disconnect and reseat the video card properly. Inspect the fan, if not working then video card will overheat and system fail. If you previously see moving colors in your screen especially small boxes, or discoloration and screen going black and white then it means video card is already failing. You will need to replace it.

3. Check for hardware failure. keyboard, mouse lan card can cause your system to halt and hang. You will need to disconnect this first when booting and see if by removing this hardware will complete the system to boot up to operating system. Replace faulty one.

4. Harddisk failure. when computer reset or will not boot up completely then hard disk usually cause this problem. Initial remedy is to reseat its connection sata, ide or power supply connector.
If you hear ticking sound in the harddisk or excessive vibration then it will need replacement.

5. Operating system corrupted. this can cause your computer not to boot up properly and hang the system. Reformat and reinstallation of operating system is required.

6. Power supply failure. you need to check the output voltage. dropping of voltage can be cause bi leaking capacitor in the power supply unit. replace it with exact value. Voltage should read +12VDC for yellow, +5VDC for red. and should be stable even with load.

let me know which one cause it.

Display vanish 5 min after system starts. If we re-boot system does't boot.. if we remove the power cord for 10min & after that if we boot again System boots normally runs for about 10min & again...

first check if the cpu cooler has sufficient contact with the cpu as it may be a overheating problem.

second check if the capacitors are not leaking or bulged.

If i enable the USB drive in CMOS.after booting the system is hanged.only mother board name mercury is shown.

The problem is with the Installed USB Devices. Check whether you are using any of the USB slots in your system. If any printers or any other USB devices are installed the boot will check with these devices, so your system is getting hanged. Try to disable the USB booting or else remove the usb device and then boot. This will resolve your problem.

PC BOOTS HALF WAY

Try booting into safe mode. If it's a driver problem, safe mode will allow you to start Windows with only the bare minimum of hardware and drivers being engaged. To get to safe mode, press the F8 button on your keyboard during the Windows boot process until it takes you to a screen to let you select Normal, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, etc. I would suggest not using anything other than just Safe Mode. From there, uninstall any software or new drivers that you recently installed. Alternatively, you can use the System Restore feature to rollback to a previous restore point.

Bios hangs

Reseat all cards in system, including the RAM. If it still does not boot try removing one stick of ram at a time to see if it boots. As well as removing extra cards.

Boot hang after formatting of hard drive

no there isnt, you need to take it and put it in another computer as a slave drive. But you might have damaged your hard drive, you can try Hiren's boot cd from here www.phazeddl.com but personally i think you might have messd up the drive.

to install as a slave
1.) find a working computer
2.) put hd in as slave (do not remove old hd)
3.) boot
4.) it will show up in my computer
5.) format and unmount drive

it the computer fails to boot ensure you got the drive connected propperly and jumpers are correct

it thats all good then your drive is damaged
