Question about Cannon Office Equipment & Supplies

3 Answers

I have a four year old i9900 printer FCAF15884 which gets clogged up fairly often. I use only canon ink tanks. The printer is used mainly for vacation photos but is used every few weeks or months otherwise also. I have failed to be able to clean it at home and have had to send it for repairs twice. This is expensive and inconvenient and the only local repair source I've found is now out of business. With this latest problem we have tried nozzle cleaning x3 through the printer and 4x deep cleaning through the computer-with no sucess-three nozzles are clogged ( which worked two days previously) This is what I'd like to know: !. Where is the best source for sending my printer for repair???? ( I came up with nothing in an exhaustive source on Google) I need an address! 2. Is ink jet clogging a problem with this model? If so, is there anything I an do at home to keep it in condition? 3. Are newer models any less free of nozzle clogging?(p.s. I tried changing ink tanks-not a factor) It is becoming very expensive to keep packaging and sending the printer for help. I love th printer's great reproductions but am dismayed by the rather freguent print failures. PLEASE HELP WITH REPAIR CENTER LOCATION ADDRESS!!!! Thank you, Norma Hamilton 29001 Boyce Rd. You responded to only one question I posed------where can I get my printer repaired. The reference Fixya you gave me is of no help. I NEED a repair center for my printer. I have now spent over an hour on the Canon site and find NOTHING about repair centers on the support section. Why is it impossible to find out where to repair this printer???????????

The printhead moves and it sounds loke it is printing but the paper is blank?

A few possibilities:

1. out of ink -- replace the ink-cartridge

2. clogged ink-jets -- run the "print-head-cleaning" utility.

3. messed-up electronics inside the printer -- buy a new printer.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.

I have a Canon i9900 printer. I have used the daylights out of it. Can printers start to print blurry if they are wearing out? My prints look fine at 100% on the monitor, and when I print the picture it...

Hi there,

Problem : Ink does not eject properly or Printing is blurred or Colors are Wrong or White streaks appear.

Cause 1 : Ink tank is not seated properly or the ink tank is empty.
Action : Check that the ink tanks are firmly seated in the print head and reseat them, if necessary.
Check that the correct ink tanks are installed and that they are in correct order.
Check to see if all the orange tape has been peeled off. If a part of the orange tape remains, remove it thoroughly.
If an ink tank is empty, replace the ink tank.

Cause 2 : Print head is misaligned.
Action : Align the Print head.

Cause 3 : Print Head nozzles are clogged.
Action Print the nozzle check pattern to check for uneven ink output.
When specific color is missing from the nozzle check pattern, clean the print head.

Cause 4 : paper is not loaded with the print side up.
Action : Checl that your paper is loaded with the correct print side facing up.
Note: Follow the instructions packaged with your specialty media for loading and handling.

Cause 5 : Incorrect paper type.
Action : Windows : On the Main tab of the printer driver, confirm that the selected Media Type matches the paper loaded.
Mac : In the Print dialog box of the printer driver, select Quality &
Media from the popup menu, and then confirm that the selected Media Type matches the paper loaded.

Cause 6 : Glossy photo paper other than the Canon specialty media is used.
Action : Select Other Photo Paper from Media Type. It may resolve the problem. Load one sheet at a time and remove each sheet as soon as it is printed.

Hope this helps.

Have a good day.

Most of Group 1inks,(except red) won't print

Over on the right is not waste ink pads, waste ink is under the print engine covering the whole bottom of the printer. On the right is the purge assembly and there is ink on the filters on top and on the squeegee that wipes the printhead. You may need a new purge assembly, or just re attach a hose in the purge unit that may have come off. That printer is well worth the repair...

Can you tell me how to empty the waste ink tank on a Canon i990 inkjet printer

There is no ink tank, it's a set of fitted absorbent pads underneath the entire print engine. You need a shop to replace them since you need the service mode to reset the counter and clear the error.

Canon i9900 not printing red or photo magenta after new printhead install

I have 3 Canons i9900 and the clogging of red and photo magenta is common, mainly photomagenta. I take the print head out and place it on a paper towel. I mix a solution of 50/0 distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. I use a syringe and put enough solution around each print head to cover it and let it soak for about 1 hr. I will keep adding solution to keep the head covered. You will notice color leaking out on the paper towel. After an hour I actually push the solution through each head until no color comes out the bottom. I took a piece of tubing and heated it to shrink the end and then cut it off straight. It fits snugly on top of the print head. I then attached it to a syringe and fill the syringe with my solution. Then I push the tubing on top of the head and gently push solution through the head until it comes out clear. I do all the heads. when I am done I use canned air to gently dry everything, especially the contact plate off. when I put the new head in I usually try to put OEM cartridges in the first time, I have been told they flow better. This works for me. It is a pain but I refill my ink and I save $1000's a year in ink.

"Banding" on Prints

Do a thorough manual cleaning of printerheads (where the cartridges sit). Many printers are notorious for clogged nozzles and the ink dries on he prinheads until it becomes a bandind issue or ladders appear, smudges too. Use a proper cleaning solution and cotton buds, until most colour is gone off cotton buds. Reinsert cartridges and try again.
