No picture 6 blinks

My TV has no picture and the standby light blinks 6 times. The service manual states that it is an overload or short on the +5 line on the A,B boards. What do I need to replace on the A, B boards?

Would I check for the 5V supply problem, sensor voltage, and eprom voltage supply on the G board (power supply board)? Would changing this board resolve the problem?

Any word on what the test points are to determine the problem?

  • jrob617 Dec 17, 2008

TV is only 4 years old. When you cut it on you can hear the sound but see no picture. The stanby/timer light blinks 6 times.

This could be as simple as a bad cap in the 5V supply line. If you have the service manual, check components on that supply line for shorts. Look first for filter caps tied to ground. Also, you can cehck the 5V regulator. If that is defective, it will generate the same error code.

Keep us posted.

Without taking measurements inside the set, no one can tell you exactly from a remote location what is the problem. All we can do is provide guidance based upon our experience in repairing these types of sets. I don't have the manual in front of me at the moment, so I can't give you specific locations. I'll look it up tonight and try to provide you with test points that should help to track down the problem.

Try to turn on, it turns off right away and the stand by light flashes 6 times

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Standby/Timer light blinking 6 Times means no Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, and so the set goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. You’ll need to open the back off the TV and check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206. Also check +5 line is overloaded (A, B boards), +5 line is shorted (A, B boards). Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Cutting off

Try the following to see what exactly the 6 light blinks mean.

To see the diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:

Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power.

This brings up a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred. This will tell you what is happening and see if it's worth fixing.

Also, have you tried unplugging the TV for a few minutes? if it's some kind of computer error, unplugging it will allow the error to clear and possibly allow the TV to work again. Just an idea to try in case the error code doesn't tell you.what is wrong.

Turn off after a few hours

If the TV turn itself off then perform the following steps:

(i) Check if the Sleep timer is activated.

(ii) Check if the Parental Guide prohibits viewing during that time and/or limits amount of viewing time per day.

(iii) Check the batteries on your remote, low battery power may cause random signals from the remote.

(iv) Disconnect all the cables from the TV then reconnect them after a few hours.

(v) Ensure the power cord from the TV is directly connected to a functional wall outlet.

(vi) You may also try resetting the TV to the original factory settings by pressing the Reset button on the remote control supplied with the TV when in Menu.

The following is the information indicated by the blinking patter of the standby/timer lamp on the TV:

2 times : Power does not come on.
Load on power line shorted.

3 times : The TV has entered standby mode.

4 times : Has entered standby state after
horizontal raster.
Vertical deflection pulse is
stopped.
Power line is shorted, or
power supply is stopped.

5 times: No raster is generated.
CRT Cathode current detection
reference pulse output is small.

6 times: No picture

9 times : No sound

Furthermore, the TV is equipped with a self-diagnosis function that you can use to determine whether the issue is related to any hardware malfunctioning. Perform the step given below to run self diagnosis:

Quickly press the remote command button in the following order from the standby state.

Display -------> Channel 5 ---------> Volume -(minus) --------> Power ON.

If the Self Diagnosis display numeral "1" for any parameters then a fault has been detected and service will be required.

wish u good luck!!!!!!!!!!

6 blinks on your model means the +5V line is either overloaded or shorted on the A or B board. You can get replacement boards at the following link and they will assist you in determining which board of the two you actually may need.

2 blinks is +B OCP protection. The manual states "Short circuit of power supply system in each circuit." and "Goes to the standby mode. Short circuit of +B line"
