Question about Acer Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have an ACER Aspire 5100 laptop and the screen has gone blank. I can see the screen by attaching a monitor and if you press the button that gets pressed when the laptop is closed the screen appears briefly before going blank again. Can you suggest what might be the problem and any resolution? I am fairly computer literate Jo

Thank you to both of you who have answered above.

I've tried fn F5 and it doesn't fix it.

I agree that it is probably the inverter, guess i'll have to get my purse out.

    Cheers

    Jo

Yes Mocmarquez there is a faint image of the desktop, so you have helped convince me that it is likely to be the inverter. Thanks

Is there a faint image of your desktop in the background? If so this could be a simple backlight inverter problem.

Sounds like the invetrer coil, you have to take it into a repair shop for this problem solving because it may require opening up to get to the inverter which is underneath the sreen itself

hope this helps

Perhaps you accidently triggered the external display only setting.
Try pushing <Fn> and <F5> at the same time. it may take a couple of presses. But if this is it that should switch the onboard display back on.

If this doesn't work, comment back here and I'll try to figure out the problem for you.

Hello, I cannot connect my ACER ASPIRE 1640 to an external monitor. I only have a predeterminated monitor as configuration option. Please, help me. Thank you Luca.

Alright 1) Turn your laptop off, connect the cables to your external monitor such as a t.v, monitor screen, through your apropriate source such as HDMI, VGA, or S-vdieo which ever one you are connecting it to. Turn your external Monitor on, and if it is a t.v make sure it's the the correct input otherwise it won't work. Then Turn your computer on, once your computer is in the Operating system and completly loaded, Then you want to press the FN button + the F5 button to swtich your display from your laptop to your external screen. There is a little Icon that appears on the screen that lets you know that it is switching either it's duplicating, to your external monitor only or back to your laptop screen, your screen may go blank for a second once your made your choise. Then you should be god to go.
2) If it doesnt work, you might want to try loading your computer first and then plugging in the cables and turning your tv on.
3) If that doesn't work, then maybe your FN button is disabled, and you need to enable it in acer windows mobility aplication. If you have question let me know.

if you have power it's not the power supply. It sound like the screen maybe gone on your laptop. Have tried hooking up a monitor to your laptop to see if the screen will come up?

Acer aspire 5100 blank screen

Try reseating the RAM modules. If that doesn't work test the RAM in another laptop. If nothing works chances are you have a faulty motherboard.

I just got an acer zg5 and the screen is blank

It sounds like your trying to use a full size monitor with your laptop. If that's the case you have to send the video to the cabled monitor by pressing the "fn" (function key) and then pressing the corresponding key that refers to a secondary video device (i.e. projector, monitor, etc.). Typically you press "fn" and f4 (should have monitor looking picture next to it), Some laptops are different, so look at your function (F1 - F12) keys to see which one is correct.

Take the battery out, press and hold power button for 10 secs, and try again, otherwise you need to call the manufacture for an RMA request.

Acer Aspire 5100 will not start right

It seems your hard drive has corupted.
This sucks, all you have to do is push ALT F10 and then go through the reseting menu, you will loose everything on there though except the original data.
