The circle with black check means "Default Printer" or "Active Printer" driver. With regard to your problem, you can restart your computer first. After that, do the following:

1. Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes
2. Right-click the printer icon with black check > Properties
3. Go to Ports tab and check the box USB Virtual Port.
4. Click OK all the way out.

Turn off printer for about 3-5 minutes, unplug the USB cable then after 5 mins, plug the USB cable, power on printer and try to print.

First thing I need to know is what operating system you are using. That will be the first thing in determining a solution. I did not see it mentioned in any of the comments.

Smith,

The black circle with the check means that this printer is set as the "Default" printer. Basically that unless you specify a different one all print tasks will be handled by this one.

OK lets see if you NEED new drivers.
Open the devive manager page Push <Windows> and <Pause/break> keys at the same time. Then select "Device manager" / "Hardware" depending on which version of windows you have.

Once in device manager look for the listing for "Printers"
Is your Printer listed in here?
Is there a little yellow marker with an ! in it?

If you answered No to the first question or yes to the second question you need new drivers.
If you have the driver and it has an error marker on it, right click it and select uninstall (This will get rid of the corrupted driver)

Now we need to get some new drivers for you. Click the link below and select YOUR operating system from the list and you will be taken to the download page for your printer.

There are drivers and software in the list. You will NEED the drivers and if you have the room I would recommend the software.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=60631&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20»
download and install the drivers and if you got it the software.

Reboot the system and then try to print something.
If that does the trick for you, then we've found your problem.
If not please post your results here and I will try to resolve this for you

Thanks
Dave

You got the right driver as it shows your printer model in Printer & Faxes.

Computer-Printer communication is what you have OR the Windows Print Spooler.

Cancel all documents in the queue than delete all instances of the printer icon in the Printers & Faxes window (it's only an icon, the driver is very well hidden in Windows system folder)

Disconnect the printer, Reboot the computer.

Once computer is ready, re-connect the USB cable, Windows will automatically create a new printer icon for you IF you got good connection.

Printjob stays in the queue ?
If the printer is connected via USB cable:
check device manager to verify computer-printer connectivity (right-click my computer icon and choose properties. then click the hardware tab and click the device manager button), scroll down and expand the USB ceontrollers section. it will show as "USB Printing Support" . if it doesn't show up, change USB cable and try other USB ports.

Wow. You need some real help here. Are you ready? You've been left out in the cold with no real help.

Look on the back of your printer. There is a model label back there that is specific to the actual internal name and not the branded name on the front. Send the model number from the back and post it here.

I'll work with you until you're fixed. And, honestly I've never experienced a black circle with a check in it. I do not know what that means. OK? Maybe we'll both find out together. But, I don't think it is a good sign.

Regards,
Worldvet

if there is proper power getting to the printer and the power led is coming ON properly
and u r nat able to connect it to the pc try this option

Drivers, Software, lost C.D....come this way!

If you have lost you cd or don't know how to install your printer then all you
need to do is download the drivers and software from the manufactures website
that suits your operating system and printer.

Drivers and software download areas for brands listed below, just click to gain
access and then locate driver for your needs.

    Brother Epson Sharp
    Canon Lexmark
OKI Dell HP Kyocera Samsung Konica/Minolta
    Xerox Panasonic

    PLEASE NOTE

When installing drivers/software it is generally a good practice to -

    ·
    Delete
    old/previous installs

    ·
    Leave printers
USB cable disconnected from computer until newly installed software requests it
    to be connected.

Will my HP Officejet v40xi All-in-One Printer work with my new macbook?

This printer is not supported by HP under Mac OSX. You may be able to get it to print with limited functionality suing a generic driver, but none of the specialized functions such as scanning will work.
However, installing an emulater program such as VMWare or Parallels will allow you to run Windows on your Macbook. You could then download the driver from HP's website here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=28235&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=28234&taskId=135
and use the printer from within Windows.
I hope this helps!

i assume you have installed the original cartridge, in this case you may need to reinstall the ink once again, the head contains a small chip that recognize the presence of the new ink, unless you are using a generic one which can also cause this issue

Can I operate my HP v40xi without a color cartridge?

Hi,
I would like to inform you that there is no way to print with black cartridge alone. You need to install two cartridges to wok the printer. So I recommend you to install color cartridge and change the settings to print in black only.

I have an hp v40xi. I recently changed my home number and can't remember how to replace my old phone number with the new, in order to get my fax to work.

The FAX header information can be changed using the HP software or the front panel on the printer. Instructions can be found here on the HP website.

Changing your phone number should not affect the fax operation. Are you sure that was all that was changed?

Scanner portion

The easiest thing to do is a system restore; it will restore all of your computers settings to a point before the software was changed. Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.

Folow the onscreen prompts and select a day prior to the day the scanner stopped working. It will reboot, then restore. Then your computer should be just like it was.
