Question about Dell 3010cn Laser Printer
Toner is missing on about a 1/2 inch streak down the right side of my paper. We tried changing toner cartridges, thinking we were out of toner...that didn't work? Is the drum damaged? Please help. Thank you

Hello! It sounds like the imaging drum is damaged. In some toner carts (especially by HP) they have the drum built right in the cart. And when a new cartridge is installed and when they are replaced can rule out a bad drum. In this case It must be separate. You should be able to remove the image drum and inspect it. Just don't touch the drum with bare hands! This can also be a symptom of three other things. It can also be the drum that heats the toner onto the paper. It could be dirty and that is tricky to repair along with the fact is that toner could be being scraped off the paper before being hardened as well. This line streak can be traced to a foreign material in beween the pinch rollers, it is a good idea to see if a piece of ripped paper is stuck inside. Finally, it could be electronic failure with the laser module; scanning electronics. That is bad news!

Start a print or copy, and just as the trailing edge of paper is entering the machine; quickly open it to stop print and take out the cartridge and look at the drum and the paper underneath. If the issue is there at that point then it would point to the cartridge. If not then it is in the fuser area.
Clean the loose toner up with a dry lint free cloth.
