Question about Chainsaws

Ms 290 acts like not getting enough fuel

This saw has a new engine fuel line and filter it might run fine for a while but once it dies or you shut it off its on it will start and rev for a second then bogs to a idle

    Replaced fuel line and filter and spark plug. Engine starts when cold with one or two pulls. It will cut two or three pieces of wood and when it warms up it starts starving for fuel and bogs down and quits. It will restart but only with the choke out and as soon as you start to give gas again it bogs down and quits again.

    Mine cranks right up and runs great for 2 minutes max then and does it again.....

    my bike has quite a big lag and take a long time before it begins to rev up, and i have a very large suspicion that it could be that theres not enough fuel going into the carb and i think this is the problem coz i have a raing air filter.

check the screen filter from the carb,check the assembly needle-spring -lever,check the fuel filter ,check all the membrans and gaskets from the carb,check the sparkplug pipe if it is fit snugly on the plug.

My poulan 4018wt has been a hard starter from new. It started to act up out of the blue and started shutting off halfway into the cut and didn't always want to idle right. So I changed the spark plug,

I'd say the most probable culprit is the fuel.... I'd first try dumping the tank out, mixing fresh gas with the addition of a fuel stabilizer and start the saw. It'll quickly vent any old gas in the line and should begin to run fine with the new mix. If not, consider returning it to the service center for adjustment.

Never use gas that has sit on a shelf for months at a time as it becomes 'stale' (for lack of a proper term). Todays 'formulated fuel' can be a cause a bit of a problem for some small engines. Anytime you refuel, shake the can to remix prior to filling.

The oxygenated nature of the blended gas sometimes causes the chain saws to run a little 'lean'...meaning too much air to fuel ratio which could be a portion of your problem. A lean running saw will run hot and scoring of the piston or cylinder wall is possible. Some finely tuned professional saws need carb adjustments between the summer blend and the winter blend gas.

Starts fine, runs fine (full throttle) for about 30 seconds and then just bogs down when throttle is depressed (or still held in). But still idles fine after it has warmed up a little.

More than likely it is your fuel line collapsing. When the rubber gets stretched, worn, aged, or run on gas with 10% alcohol, especially the last, the rubber gets weak and collapses on itself at full speed. That is why it runs till the suction collapses the line but still allows enough through to idle. Once the saw is shut off the line will fill up again when the suction stops and you can run till the line is empty again. It is worse if your filter is clogged also. Went through this when they came out with this crappy gas in the late 1980's. Had to carry spare fuel lines while logging because the lines could not take the alcohol. That is why I burn airplane fuel in my saws. No alcohol or storage problems. If you look up around Oct 1 or 2 I wrote how to change the fuel line. Hope this helps.

Check your carburetor. You probably have a bad one and will need to replace it.

Hi goincrazy, check that your carb tubes are ok, and your exhaust filter is clean, also clean your fuel filter or get a new one. Hope that helps

There are a few things to check, if the muffler has a spark arrester gauze in the out let this may well be blocked, remove the muffler and the gauze, does the engine now rev? if yes either the park arrester is blocked or the muffler itself is blocked, if this does not cure it, check the flow of fuel from the tank to the new carb, replace the filter in the fuel tank and try again, if this does not help try running the saw with the air filter removed, if it revs normally the filter is blocked.

Check the fuel filter, air filter and muffler for plugging. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? Hope this helps!
