Take the top loose on the dryer to acces the door switch. If it is the old style it should have a metal suround over the black switch. If the metal arm piece has broke, Ttake it off and tape the white button down to make it run.

Mine did not have such a black switch. So, I had to cut and splice wires instead. However, mine has a light in the drum which is supposed to turn on when the door is opened. Thus, the door switch had three wires leading to it. One came from the drum light, one came from the control panel and one went to the grouns/common. I had to track down the wires using the wiring diagram (typically tucked inside the control housing) to determine which is which and then connect the wire from the control unit to the common/ground. This of course disabled the light. However, I do enjoy snatching items from the dryer without having to restart. This is also a good temporary fix until your new switch comes in. Of course, if your switch is not broke, you can just tape the switch closed.

Be sure the child lock switch is working. If the door is not closed,it won't spin. If the switch is broken, it will not spin.

Door switch broke

The drier will not operate without the door being secured for safety reasons. There is power running to the switch and once the door is shut and the lever,or the "spring" is pushed in it allows the power to turn on.Almost like a light switch. The door switch will have to be replaced. This is a very easy repair. The switch can be found at your nearest appliance store or online.

The only solution that comes to my mind is to snip off the wires on either end of the switch and fuse them together. The dryer will run even when the door is opened.
