That is a convergence problem, probably one of the two stk ICs on the convergence board is starting to fail and you get the typical color splitting picture.

Sir,

we have to pull off the front of the tv. behind the speaker grill is a panel. remove the panel. there is a black box there hanging. it has 6 controls on it. 3 are marked focus and 3 screen. we want to adjust the screen. if yoy turn these too high you can damage a tube. so we are doing real small adjustments. turn the color off on the tv and ajust the red and blue controls up till you get a black and white picture. right now you have a green tint with the color turned off.

thanks
good luck

Hi,

Initially, pls post back the exact model of the RCA TV. The model R401A1 is for the remote control. Normally, RCA TVs have models like R52WH76. In some designs, your posted/described problem would indicate a cold solder or heat related issue and not necessarily a defective component. If attended to early, then the fix would be relatively easy, re-solder. Often the culprit maybe found in any of the ICs' pins. In other models, this maybe the convergence ICs, again depending on the model.

In any case, the unit has to be opened up. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    Appreciate the postback on the correct model number, R52WH74. Below are some information which you may find useful:

    • for an RCA R52WH74, the chassis number is ITC222A;

    • more often than not, the convergence board would require looking over. I suspect as earlier stated cold solder. With this in mind, all that is needed is a soldering iron;

    • incidentally, a more pronounced version of your problem has been addressed on this site by one of the resident experts, Slinteriors, who has repaired and provided information for similar issues. If you would click on the link to his name, it would open to his profile page and you can then proceed to do an "Ask Me", that is to direct a question to him;

    • alternately, you can try http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca ;

    • pls reference pages here and here;

    • the service manual should you be interested is available likewise at http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/.

    • and no I am not affiliated with Slinteriors or http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/;

    • I actually am across the globe.
    Cheers.

My rca projection tv has blue and green images like a 3D picture would without your 3D glasses, a double vision image and no other colors

sounds like the sensors are out of focus and your red sensor isnt turning on. look in the back of the tv for a master reset button or in your menu screen some sort of "Flash focus" or "convergence". They will realign the 3 sensors.

Picture problem with rca 52 inch hdtv colors split not in focus

Hello, If your picture looks like a "3D image" you need convergence IC's . Red and or blue picture is not converging on top of the green picture. They are mounted on large, finned heat sinks. The # on the IC's starts with "STK-" followed by numbers.They are available through tritronicsinc.com for $15 to $35 each. Good luck.
