How to run Check Disk in Windows 7

Below is the steps on how to run Check Disk in Windows 7. From time to time if you are computer is not running properly this is important to run on your computer. The reason it time to time you will get corrupt files and/or files that left over from old installs that are slowing down the computer. This command will repair the files it can and remove the old unneeded files.

1. Open My Computer

2. Next right click and select Properties on the drive that you need to run Disk Cleanup.

3. Next click on the Check Now.

4. Next make sure that both options are check and click on the Start button.

5. Next click on Schedule disk check. The reason for this is if part is that if the sector is being accessed the sector can not be recovered. So this is ran before Windows fully loads.

6. Next click Start then click on the arrow next to the Shut Down button to get the Restart option to restart your computer. Note before you restart your computer you will want to make sure you have closed all your running programs.

At this point your computer will restart and run the Check Disk. Note this can run for over a hour depending how large the hard drive is.

After Check Disk is done running your computer will boot into Windows ready for you to use.

Next it is recommended that you run defrag on your hard drive this will take care of any fragmented files and put them back together. This as well will make your computer run a bit faster. This link will show you how to defrag your hard drive.

Why does my computer take so long to restart?

There are SO Many possible factors causing slowdowns.
Start with checking the free space on your hard drive. You need some wiggle room to navigate and 25% free is recommended.
Defragment your hard drive. (I like the free Defraggler software better than Windows on feature.) this will take some time so run it overnight.
You may have background programs running. You do not need this--they will kick in when needed, and really slow you down.
For WIN 7 & Vista click Start and type in <msconfig> without the hentrax to bring up the System configuration window.
Click on Startup and uncheck everything except your antivirus (and something like SKYPE if you want it to kick in when you boot up). Apply, OK and Reboot. Check the box on the little window that appears i order to make it gone.
See if your fans are clogged with dust. It is very important to stick a pencil or something between the blades when spraying canned air to keep them from spinning.
Doing some or all of these should give you lightning speed! Hope this helps.

I need help with ibm thinkpadr40 have no idea what is going on tried somethings, blue screen keeps coming up and freezes and runs slow

If you are getting different problems at different times, they you have to start handling things slowly to exactly pin point the issue. It will be great if you can also document the error messages, when you get it, the windows version you are using etc so we can provide you more accurate steps and identify the exact issue.

First if you are using windows XP restart the computer in safe mode and try using it (if you wanted to use internet - wired) then restart the computer in safe mode networking.

Procedure to restart computer in safe mode:
Restart computer, keep tapping F8 key on the keyboard, instead of going to windows it will show up a windows advanced boot menu, where you need to use your up or down arrow key to navigate the control to Safe mode / safe mode with networking and hit enter key. this will show some commands / text on your screen and take you to safe mode.

Try using your computer in safe mode and see if your computer is giving you any error or if it freezes. If it does not give you any trouble in this mode then you computer is good, it should be the additional programs running in the normal mode that is creating the issue. we need to diagnose further to find it.

If it is freezing / gives your error message in safe mode itself, then there should be a problem with the hardware of your computer, we have to find out by eliminating the hardware one by one.

Do not worry, we can work together pin point the issue and we will help you to resolve this issue.

Gets hot and turns off

you are frying the computer. get a cooling pad they are a cheap way to keep the computer cool. games require more juice to run, so when you play them your computer is in overdrive trying to keep up and to cool down. if you keep it cool then it won't have to work as hard. the computer has a partition on the hard drive you have to press F10 or F11 key and it will boot off that. that is a restore partition, so you can take it back to the state in which you bought it.
