Our house came with a GE JE1640 microwave and trim kit. This year the microwave magnetron tube died. Cost to repair is too high, even with warranty, so I'd like to get another microwave that fits same trim kit.
What is the model number for this trim kit?
What microwave models will fit this?
Thanks.

Finally built up the courage to call GE Appliance number and weave my way through the phone menu system. Pressed the right menu option (sales) to speak to someone about trim kits. Found out that the trim kit model number is JX1527MWW. Then called back to select a different menu option (other) and learned from someone else that since the trim kit model is more than 1-2 years old, there's a slim-to-none chance any new microwave models will work with it, and even if there was they couldn't easily cross-reference against a model that old to tell me which one (or something to that effect). So I hit a dead end. Only option for me at this point is to buy a new microwave with new trim kit.
(Personal note: I think the trim kit business is a racket, in bed with the microwave manufacturers. Why else would there be no standard dimensions for microwaves by now--like refrigerators have--and why is it a few pieces of sheet metal cost over $150? Pretty convenient that every microwave model needs its own trim kit model!)
Is microwave needs ventilation when it is fix on wall of kitchen?

I have a similar problem with a GE JE1860 Microwave. This unit was brand new when we moved into our house in June 2006. The week of Thanksgiving (perfect timing), the unit began making a grring sound and smoke. Inside where the pop-off plastic face plate is, you could see it was burning. It stopped. I called GE Appliances, and they sent out a service technician. He said since the burning was present that he couldn't just replace the magnetron tube, but I would have to call GE to replace the unit.
I called GE. I didn't have a service contract. They offered to replace the Model JE1860 with a JEB1860 at a pro-rated amount. The technician had told me that I would need a new trim kit too, since most likely the replacement model won't fit the old trim kit. So, I ordered the new trim kit.
The trim kit for the old model -- the trim piece just screwed into the wall. The trim kit for the new model ---the trim piece 'snaps' onto a top & bottom bracket that is screwed into the wall. The trim piece is roughly the same size.
THE PROBLEM: the top & bottom mounting brackets are too small. They do not fit the opening. I called GE. They do not offer a larger top & bottom bracket. They said I would have to pay a re-stocking fee, which I got them to waive because there is nothing on the website showing a needed dimension for the brackets.
MY QUESTION: the replacement microwave was returned. I did not try the old trim piece over it. My question is the bottom duct that comes with a trim kit. Are these basically the same size....meaning if I went out and bought a new microwave, would the bottom bracket fit and therefore I can just put back on the old trim piece?
I have a dead GE JE1640 microwave. I need to find a new model that will fit same cut out dimensions with new stainless trim kit. I'm guessing only GE will fit the space. Does anyone know what the replacement model # is for this old one?
When small plastic feet fitted to microwave, microwave does not fit opening correctly but without them it fits perfect,y
