I have had the Gateway computer for 2 years. There is not a disk in the drive and the door will not open at all. I have rebooted and still nothing. The computer recognizes the drive but that is all. I have windows XP media center edition. I have tried to download a new driver but it wants me to save it to a cd and cannot open the door to do it. Please help!

- I was able to open the door, but that is the only way it will open. Now I am able to download the driver. Thank you!
-   I have had the exact same problem with my Lite On DVD/CD rewritable drive on my Gateway computer. Tray will not open even after inserting a paper clip into the hole located in the front of the tray. Only solution is to replace the drive. Got a comparable drive at walmart for $59. Very easy to install. Problem solved.-   womble1337
there should be a small hole in the end panel of that cd/dvd drive..about big enough for a needle or a paper clip end. gently place one in that hole, and press the release button..should open..
inspect inside for anything that might be keeping that from opening. Might be that drive needs to be replaced.
