You should immediately buy another hard drive. Reload the new one with your OS, programs, drivers. Cable Select them with the new one as master and old as slave. Transfer your data files to the new hard drive. Do this before it's too late and the drive crashes completely. It's only a matter of time.

How to Fix Bad Sector in Harddrive?? the comments is "cyclic redundancy check??".... thanks a lot..:)

It is probably bad. You can try a format, but it has likely reached its limit of bad sectors and needs to be replaced.

Hii have a Samsung hdd. Due to some bad sectors not it says that "boot media not recognised....abortretrycancel...". even I tried to fix it with other pc but it is not recognised even there. So how can I...

Hi,
first run the samsung diagnostics on the harddrive to check the drive integrity weather or not its repairable. Then you can low level format the hardrive to fix any bad sectors
Diags link :

Vista wants me to format my external harddrive.

Can you access this drive on a non-Vista system? If so, try the Simple Tech WWW site for a diagnostics program?

There are also a number of other software programs that can detect and mark the bad sectors or locations on your drive as bad.

Once those sectors are marked (at the FAT Table) as bad Vista may allow you to access that drive again. IF it does, copy everything available to a DVD. Now reformat the drive but DON'T trust it.

Bottom line is that I personally would not trust that drive again with ANY data that is important to me... I hope you will agree with me. If you decide to use it anyway please backup to two locations or drives!

Good Luck!

Quantium 10.2 gb fireball CX10A011 specs. ie sectors, mode, etc.

The specifications to enter the information manually, are on top of the harddrive. Kind of hard to discern, huh? That's because harddrive sizes from 6.4GB through 20.4GB are listed on top.
C/H/S = Cylinders/Heads/Sectors
The Quantum Fireball CX10A011 hardrive is a 10.2GB harddrive.
You will see -> C/H/S....10.2 - 16383/16/63 on top.

That is ,
16,383 Cylinders
16 Heads
63 Sectors

As for the 40GB model, it should be similar. If not, come back and post.
