Question about Compaq Presario R3000 Notebook
It's probably the inverter for the LCD, it's located at the base of the display you need to open the top panel and check the connections to the inverter board. Please be careful not to get zaped there is several hundred volts at the output ! , unplug the laptop, remove the battery, remove the 4 screws around the display and carefuly pry the front bezel off. you'll see the inverter board at the base of the display , remove the connectors one at a time and reconnect them. This may help to brighten the display. Also try pressing the Fn key and the F8 key to adjust the brightness, if this dosn't help you'll need to get a new inverter ( around 20.00 bucks on ebay) and replace it.

Rightclick on the screen, go to preferenses, check the settings, i bellive that the settings have been changed someway. Change the display settings to 1024 x 728, check that the colors are set on 32bit and check that the right screen is chosen. When you done all that press save.
