If you mean a Gateway 420GR (there's no "420R" listed on their site), then you can have up to 4GB of RAM and you can use 1GB modules. Here's a link to the specs page on their site:

My Gateway DX300X desktop is super slow and only has 0.99 GB of RAM. How do I install more?

According to specs, your computer can use up to 4Gb of memory. You will need to open the case and see what is currently installed. You should have 4 memory slots and probably it came configured with 2 512Mb memory sticks. You could add 2 more sticks of 1Gb each bringing your total up to 3Gb, but my suggestion would be to remove the existing memory modules and install 4 matching 1Gb modules. You must use DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC) type memory and the best results will be achieved by using all matching modules.

Hi there. I am a RAM rookie. I have GAteway MX7118. are there two memory slots or one. It comes with 512 does that mean there are two slots and I can add a 1GB for A total of 1.5GB ?

Hi, defending on your cpu board usualy there are two slots, also if your board capable to 1 gigabytes memory, if your memory is DDR u can add 1 GB up . if your memory is SD you cannot add higher than 712 MB. if your memory is 512 and you want to add 1GB the total should be 1.5 you are correct in your calculation. thanks

What memory can i upgrade to for my system?

The Gateway GT4022 comes from the factory with two sticks each of 512 MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz dual channel, non-ECC memory, for a total of 1GB (1024 MB). You have 4 slots for memory. Each slot can have up to 1GB for a total of 4GB's. You should install the memory in _pairs_ for best performance. Also, when installing in pairs, you'll need to populate the pairs in slots 1 and 3 (_not_ slots 1 and 2 if using only one pair). Slots tabs on slots 1 and 3 are white. The tabs on tabs 2 and 4 are black.
You can go to memory websites like www.crucial.com to get a free scan of your computer to see all the memory options available for your computer.

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Max memory is 2GB, i.e. 1GB per slot(DIMM), so you will need 2 X (SimpleTech 1 GB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM). {Always use matched pairs only}

Not enough memory

  • your Toshiba Satellite M35X-S311 has the following memory configuration
  • Configured with 512MB
  • The maximum memory you can have is 2048MB (Max),
  • 2 memory slots using 1024MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM Memory modules (Both slots may be occupied). Go to a store and request for this memory specification and you will have 2GB of memory for all the programs you have listed here. Good Luck!

Install more memory, install new dvd/cd drives

As far as the memory in your system goes, each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-8500, DDR2 PC2-5300, or DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot. You can add two 1GB modules to your present configuration if you choose.

For complete info go to: Crucial for Gateway 835GM

You can also go to www.crucial.com and run their scan feature. It's safe and works well.

Note that you should install memory in matched pairs, so if you should buy 2 more 512MB modules, make sure they are the same kind/type. Also realize that should you upgrade to 4GB of RAM, unless you have a 64-bit OS, it may not recognize all 4GB.

As for the drives, any "big box" electronics store will have the drives you need/want. Even Wal-Mart has a decent selection of internal drives. The drives should work with no problem. Gateway and other companies put fancy bezels on the front, but they have buttons and hinged doors that will allow most drives to be used. One thing you need to make sure of is what type of drive you need. That is, what type of controller is used, either IDE or the newer SATA. If you are not sure, comment back and i will try to research it further.

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Upgrading RAM on your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer is easy, Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer takes the PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR. RAM Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of RAM.
You can upgrade your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer to up to a maximum of 2.0 GB RAM, the Computer has 4 sockets to install RAM, already with 512 MB (removable) standard RAM installed. For best Computer performance use the maximum amount of allowed RAM per slot for your system.

Ram memory

I recently upgraded the memory in a Gateway desktop with a similar configuration as your. If you only had two of the four memory slots filled before you attempted to upgrade, those two originally used slots must be filled first before you add memory to either one or both of the other two slots. As far as the maximum amount of memory that can be used in each slot, I would need more specific information on your computer. My suggestion at this point is that you either refer to your manual if you have one, or if you do not have a manual, you can access this information online. I was just on Gateway's web site but for your specific information on memory upgrade I would need either a more accurate model number or, what would be best is the serial number of your machine. You seem to be fairly knowledgeable about computers so the easiest would be for you to access Gateway's web site. Once you are on their site go to "support", then go to "my support". You will be prompted to enter your serial number at this time. This page should give you all the information that you need. Listed there should be the maximum amount of memory for the system and also the maximum amount of memory per slot. For example, if the maximum memory of the system is 4 GB, the maximum per slot would be 1 GB. The easiest for you, and what I did on my recent upgrade, would be to leave the existing two pieces of 256 MB in their original slots and purchase two more, 1 Gigabyte pieces and use those in the previously unused slots. You would be under the maximum that you could use in your system but adding 2 GB will improve the performance a great deal and you would not waste the memory that was originally installed.

SAMSUNG 1GB RAM 400MHZ PC3200

RAM has to be

Four 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets

Supports PC3200 (400 MHz) /PC2700 (333 MHz) / PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR DIMM type

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory module is 1 GB

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 4 GB
It has to be the same.

• If you are replacing a memory module, put the
new memory module in the same memory slot
from which the old memory was removed.
Or
• If you are adding a memory module, install the
new module into the socket nearest the
preinstalled module, and install additional
modules in the next available sockets
