Could you please explain your problem a bit more thoroughly? Does it go black immediately? Does it happen after a certain Length of time?

    Any other symptoms?

Well I was hoping it was going to be the simple answer of the "Energy star" settings kicking in and I would walk you through changing those settings.

This however sounds more like a conductor in the power supply/transformer has a break in it. When its cold (not powered up) its expanded and able to connect with the rest of the wire. Once its powered up the electricity going through it causes it to contract and seperate.

Unfortunately this is a HIGH Voltage device and I would not recommend a self fix to someone who is not experienced with HV electronics for this type of device. As a mistake could be fatal.

That being said, if you think you have the necessary experience, then you'll want to find out the part number for the power control board for this unit and get a price for it. (Sometimes these "Components" when purchased individually can cost more than a new monitor) If you can get the part cost effectively then it is a matter of swapping out the boards.

If you are NOT comfortable with HV then find a service shop that will give you a free estimate. If that estimate is cheaper than a new monitor then get it serviced. Otherwise It may be more cost effective to get a new Monitor (Plus you'll get a warranty with it)

I hope this helps you,
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Dave

My dell monitor will only turn on for a few seconds then it goes black. it doesnt turn of it just goes black and I can keep doing it and it will keep going black.

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

My emprax monitor keeps going black. why is this and what can it?

You can have failed filter caps in the power supply, or failed backlight inverter, or worstcase will be the lamps, open it up and inspect the caps first and report back what you find so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Disable the Screen Saver in the Display Properties from Control Panel of your Computer.

A Black ScreenSaver is active in your Display Settings. Change it to "NONE" and your problem will be solved.

Starlogic 20 inch widescreen monitor screen keeps going black

This is probably a back light problem. Take a bright flashlight and while the monitor is on, point it at the LCD and try different angles, etc. If you can see an image, it is the back light, probably the back light voltage converter unit in the lcd. It could also be the back light bulbs.

If you don't see an image with the flash light, then it could be the main logic board.
