Question about Dell Computers & Internet
I am unable to restore computer to original factory restore.( Windows XP Media 2005) When I press Ctrl-F11 it starts the restore process - warning about are you sure comes up and when I select restore a Ghost image appears briefly and then a message about unable to complete restore comes up. When I restart system it shows ''Loading PBR for descriptor 2 ... Done'' and it freezez there
I even tried booting from a Windows XP cd to install a fresh copy but after the initial screens when you select install it says no drives found. I tried a new 250GB drive but same results. The drives are SATA. The drives are recognized in bios and with the original drive when I boot to diagnostics partition everything pases including drives ram etc I believe its something to do with SATA and XP but don't know how to fix please help as I've been at this for 12 days
It sounds as if your restore partition has become corrupted. You vcan Contact Dell and order a restore disk
As far as trying to Install from Install CD goes. Well Win XP does NOT recognize SATA drives natively. You have to install the sata drivers to get them to appear. You can download them from the link below.
If you have a floppy drive, this is easy just copy to a floppy. Then during the install WinXP says something to the effect of "Press F6 to install 3rd party or RAID drivers" hit <F6> and direct it to the drivers on the floppy.
You should now be able to complete your WinXP install.
If you don't have a floppy drive post back here and we'll try to see if we can get the drivers in there another way.
