Question about JVC Televison & Video

Loss of picture and sound

I was watching TV and unfortunately hit a wrong button on my remote and that is when my problem started. Now when I turn on the TV the lamp light blinks slow for a short time and then stops. I did unplug the TV for a couple of hours but that didn't help. Also the only way now to turn the TV off is to unplug it. I think it has to do with the input information, but I am unable to access the menu to check for proper setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

The model is 61z456. The number of times the lamp light flashed was 20. It might be the lamp but if I remember from the last time the lamp went out both the power light and the lamp flashed continuously. And I was thinking I had sound but not sure. This TV has had thelamp replaced with in the last two years under warranty, not that it might not be bad again but I don't think so since I know I hit a wrong button on the remote and the screen went blank.

If is in sleep mode I am unable to get it out of sleep mode. Also I would think I woukld still be able to turn the TV off with the control button and not have to unplug it. I guess I have a problem that can't be fixed over the internet. I thought it might be something simple that I was missing or that you might have repair manuals that go into more detail that users manual.

I removed the bulb and it doesn't look bad. Is there a way of checking them. I guess what I am really wondering since I pushed a wrong button is there a reset procedure I can do.

This is just a theory....

Does the remote have component buttons for use as a universal remote?
example : tv dvd vcr sat etc.....

If so try pushing the TV button and see if that gets the TV to respond

Also is there a button for Input or source on the remote

If so if you accidentally pushed this button you may have switched the tv to receive from any of the various inputs it may have, and if there is nothing connected to that input you would have no audio/video

Hope this helps you

Dave

There is a way to check if the lamp filament is open by measuring for continuity using a multimeter in the diode or continuity range. The other way would be to try to see through the fan vents for any sign of light when the TV is trying to power ON.
Pressing a button might not have been the cause for the TV to fail because if that was the case, you will still have access to the menu screens.

In some of the tv there is a setting to put your tv into a stand by or a sleep mode.which causes this problem.

The TV has detected an internal error and is in protect mode.

The lamp lights indicates that there is a fault related to the lamp, and probably lamp, or the small ballast board powering the lamp must be replaced.

    The blinking are error codes.

Depending on how many blinking you have, it is one of the following problems.

    1. the lamp door is not well closed.

    2. the lamp did not fire because the lamp is defective and must be replaced.

3.the lamp did not fire becsue the ballast is bad, and a technician must replace the small ballast board that powers up the lamp.

You can find a replacement lamp here, or by calling JVC number listed on the owner manual.

It is weird that is the lamp, 20 times is not a valid blinking code for this set, then it is rather unlikey that is the lamp.

You can try removing the lamp and putting back the lamp in place, be extremely careful if you DIY as this is a delicate operation.

A weird error of this kind is usually associated with problems on dital board that is the main board inside the TV.

Try leav3ing the set unplugged overnight, if this does not fix the problem, call JVC either to get technical assistance, or to buy a warranty extension.

A warranty extension will be cheaper than a single repair, and will cover your TV repairs for an extra year or more.

To test a DLP TV lamp you set the multimeter to test impedance, and test the bulb contacts using the multimeter, if this returns infinite impedance, then the lamp has blown.

The remote has stopped working so the only way I can change channels is on the actual tv

Easy way to test an infrared remote is to point your camera at it and then push a button on the remote and look for the purple color on the camera, If you don't see the color AND the batteries in the remote are new AND installed correctly, it is time for a new remote.

Westinghouse 55" tv will turn on but no picture or sound, remote wont work

Replace it, the cost to repair will be close to a new one. Flat screens are dirt cheap right now.

Sound is pinned at 100% output. Remote nor physical buttons on device are working.

If any of the buttons on the remote or tv work, then try going into the menu and turning the sound down manually.

I have sound but no picture on my tv

This is a popular question. Most of the time you either need to make sure all connections are not loose or just need to turn off your tv and receiver and unplug. Wait for 1 minute then reboot.
I recommend this short video as it walks you through some diagnostics for other possible problems.

How do i watch my tv with a broken remote

You can buy a universal remote and program it to work with your TV. I have always had good luck with RCA universal remotes. You can also program the remote to run your cable/sat box and your DVD/blue ray player. You could also go to the web site of the company that made the TV and order a new remote. This would be more expensive but the remote would run all the funcitions while the universal may not.

How to Program

Remotes With SET Button
1. Choose and press a device key i.e TV. LED will flash once.
2. Press "SET" Hold until the LED Lights up.
3. Enter the 4-digit Device code (refer code list).
4. The LED will flash once as each number is programmed at the end of the 4 digit the LED will turn off immediately if correct. If the LED flashes then something went wrong in the process. If the first code does not work then repeat the process with the next.
