Hello,

There are several courteous people willing to help you with your battery problem. The most sensible place to go to is your local camera store, the one where the hobbyist go to and has brand name ads in the yellow pages.

The people at this type of store are more than capable of not only testing and replacing your battery but also giving your camera a fast look over for some obvious, to them, issues that may be draining your battery too quickly. And, should you need a charger that's failing and the cause of all this trouble, they can test it and get you a replacement.

Regards,
Worldvet

Follow the steps below to resolve this issue: Step one: Reset the camera

  1. If you have an optional memory card installed, remove it. (Although removing an optional memory card is not necessary for performing the reset, it eliminates the memory card as a possible cause of the problem.)
  2. Remove all power sources (batteries and AC power) from the camera for at least 5 seconds.
  3. Reinsert the batteries and close the Battery/Memory card door and/or reconnect the HP AC power adapter to the camera.
  4. After verifying that the camera works without an optional memory card, reinsert the card, if you have one.
Try to turn the camera on. If it now works properly, the camera experienced a temporary electrical problem and should now work properly.
  • If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions in this document.
  • If the is not resolved , continue with the next step.
Step two: Check for damage or corrosion on the batteries
  1. Open the Battery/Memory card door on the camera.

The batteries can be recharged in the camera with the appropriate adapter or dock. See page 155 of the manual.

How to charge when battery already dead

The Kidizoom is a camera, not a battery charger. If you wan to use rechargeable batteries, you'll have to charge those batteries in a separate, appropriate charger.

If by "dead" you mean a broken, defective, or past end of life battery, then there is nothing you can do to charge it again. If you simply mean a completely drained battery, put it into an appropriate charger and charge it following the instructions for that charger.

NEVER try to charge a non-rechargeable battery.

Yes. You need a new battery. I would assume the same. Have the battery checked or try charging it in the battery charging cradle overnight.

HP R717 camera will not work . installed new battery will not charge

Connect the camera to the charger. If it works, while connected to the charger, the problem is either with the battery or the battery contacts. Make sure that battery contacts are clean.

Camera turns off

Are you sure the battery is holding a charge? you can get one off of ebay pretty cheap. Just to check. It is acting like a battery issue but it could be a damaged lens that can cause the same out come. I hope this helps lead you to a easy repair.

Non functioning camera

Whoah, the same thing happened to my camera.
I'm going to get a new battery. I hope it works...other wise it is just a dead camera and you need to look into getting another one *gulp* how long have you had it??? Mine I bought in mid year 2006. And this is the 2nd time its gone dead. The 1st time, I just had to take the battery out and put it back in and it turned on immediately. But this 2nd time, I tried the same technique and NADA.
If it doesn't work then I'll end up buying a HP photosmart, Sony or Kodak (recommended).
