Tecumseh 8hp snowblower engine kicks back hard enough to break plastic handle. I checked the key in flywheel ,I cleaned the carb, checked the flywheel, andcleaned magnets and coil pick up. I tried to start...

surging when running is most likely normal ,they have a governer that control's the carb & rpm so it wont over rev. It has a paddle near the fly wheel to pick up wind from it when running hooked to the carb with a small lever and held stable by a spring. Check to see if the spring is too tight or sloppy. 8 hp is a pretty big motor and a kick back is not really un expected. But a plastic handle is kinda cheesy, a rubber or a wooden handle would be better.Good thing you have electric start!

I have a Tecumseh 8hp snowblower engine that kicks back and has broken the plastic handle. I soaked the carb ( engine surging) cleaned it all real good. I checked the woodrift key, no marks , fly wheel...

If you didn't replace the woodruff key, you need to anyways. Another option is the cam. Have you had your coil off.to.clean it and may have possibly put.it on upside down? It is definitely your timing, it is just a process of elimination.

The tecumseh carburetor on my mtd snowblower is leaking gas from the throttle hole on the side that is facing away from the engine . the carb is new and so are gasket i cant stop the gas leak

Gas is coming out of the area where the air filter would go IF a snowblower had a filter....That happens when the Needle valve is stuck open for some reason. Either the Float that closes the valve has a leak and sink in the gas or the needle is slightly rusted in the carb in the open position. you need to take the bowl off the carb and see if you can easy lift the Float and see the needle valve moving up and down. A;so see if there is gas in the float. There shouldn't be

My guess is that it sat all year in your garage with Ethanol Fuel in it and your carburetor needs a good cleaning. You can do it yourself, or have a pro do it for about $30. I'll post you a link if you feel you can do it yourself. This is for a Briggs Carb and your blower probably has a Tecumseh, but it's basically the same process. You just have to make sure on a Tecumseh, that the bowl goes back on with the bevel toward the hinge on the float.

Tecumseh 8hp HIGH REVING! snowblower

Hi,

be careful, if the engine over revs it may just explode. These engines are very picky if over sped and easily blow up.
Your problem may be a broken throttle control rod, have look at that first. If the control rods are fine and in place it could be the fly wheel governor is worn out.

Auger stopprd working on an MTD snowblower.

The manual has a step by step procedure for adjusting the cables for the auger, speed selector and drivewheels. One socket wrench and about 10 min should do it.

My Yardworks is an MTD product and it's manual should be similar to yours. If you lost it, you can download it from MTD's site.
