Will not boot

When I power up, the screen just keeps alternating between the ACER screen and the Windows screen. I have tried the System CD to boot up from it but it makes no difference. Also tried pressing f8 to start in safe mode but this does not either HELP !!!!

Pleased to say that I recovered via the f10 option at the Acer screen. It meant that I lost all data that I had created, but as most of it was backup or backed up on/from my PC then this wasn't really a problem. Obviously also lost any applications loaded since set up but just means Ive got to load them again. Thanks for any attempts to help. Hope the above might help someone who gets into same situation

1. No I cannot boot by using f2 from the acer screen
2. I presume you mean use the recovery disk rather than the system recovery disk, even though the instructions tell you to use the system disk first. I have been reticent to do this but I suppose that as all else has failed I might try it.

Thanks to both for replies

Acer travelmate 630 blue screen

If you mean the CD drive won't open to let you put the XP cd in then look for a small hole in the drive lid which lets a straightened paper clip gently slide in to release a catch and let the drive open.
Alternatively make a boot USB stick and copy the entire XP cd to it

Black screen.

A few questions up ahead please:
a. Is the power button lighting up when you press it or power on your laptop?

b. Is the battery fully charged?

c. is the power cable/charger still good when you connect to mains supply?

**If you answered YES to all the above...

Your laptop screen may be bad and as such must be replaced.

Otherwise, The windows operating system may have CRASHED.

If this is so, then you can try out this system recovery tips as the last resource:

1. try remove the hard drive which you can access by opening the back cover as shown in the owner's manual.

2. next, connect this through an external usb casing to another system and backup all files on the hard drive.

3. if you don't have an acer recovery cd(s) for your laptop, try get someone who has and can help you burn the software for your model and make.

4. next, format the hard drive before you reinstall it back into your laptop.

5. power on your laptop and continously press F8 to enter the bios setup.

6. Select bootup sequence and select boot from cd drive.

7. first reinstall a lower version windows os by inserting a bootable system software.

8. after installation, keep the cd rom drive open and shut down your laptop.

9. insert the acer system recovery cd into the cd rom drive and close shut.

10. Restart your laptop then, Follow the instructions and prompts.

Your laptop will be restored to the way it was originally from the manufacturer.

Acer 3000 wont start

if u hav the windows cd along with u,,then try repairing the OS or else u can format it and install the os again fresh.but in later case all the data will get deleted..put the windows os cd in ur computer and restart the computer and keep tapping F12,the boot sequence will come up,,select cd rom and hit enter and keep pressing the space bar{it will say press any key to boot from cd},after u see that u will see the windows setup screen and then u will c a screen where u will get a option to either repair or format the hdd and setup windows again,,if u repair the data will remain,,,but if u format and there is only 1 drive in ur computer{like c drive only}then u will lose all data,,but if u hav multiple drives like {c,d,e ,,then format only c drive,,}all data in other drives will remain,,but data in my pictures,my music will get erased,,
my suggestion,,try repairing the OS first,,

Acer 1360 black screen cant get start menu

If you are getting a Blue screen repeatedly and you can't start up to windows in any custom setting ( from f8 start up menu ) one way to solve the problem is to Use the restore disc or windows installation cd or dvd to install windows into the computer or perform a repair installation if a windows already exists on the computer and the setup can find it.

how to perform a repair installation

this is for xp, but its similar on 2000 and on vista.

insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter boot menu or bios, it will very likely be button F12 or similar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesn't, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first.

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

here's some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change-boot-order.php

Repeat step 1 when you have changed the boot order.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

7.Ones windows is working you will need the drivers for your computer, they are at the makers website, for hp and compaq. www.hp.com for acer http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html for all other brands go to google and write Brand drivers. Should get you to the right place. Dell is most likely www.dell.com and so on.

Problem in booting then only mouse pointer display on the screen

Sounds like you messed it up well!

Suggest you cut your losses and just reinstall the system afresh
but first try booting from the install DVD and going through the process until you reach the options to install or repair
Select Repair and let the DVD try and fix it

With Acer I think you press F11 or F12 when booting to get the one time boot choice.
When you have it just select the DVD player the disc is in and let it do its thing

Trying to do a repair installation

OK, that screen is the bios for the laptop. Don't do anything in there. (except check under boot and make sure the boot order is cd then hard drive) Once the boot order is correct, just boot from the cd rom, and to do a repair, just keep continuing past where you are asked to enter F-8, the next screen will offer a repair for the windows installation- press R. That keeps your files and programs, but reinstalls windows. Good luck
