It sounds like you may have a connecting cable problem, although it could be the player itself is bad. Make sure you haven't gotten the video and audio connections switched around if you are hooking the player to the TV that way. If you are using an RF connection to the TV's antenna input, be sure the TV is on the right channel (3 or 4) to match the player setting.

First when tapping changes the picture you have somewhere a bad connection; in electrical board or wiring.
When the screen goes blank after a while means some capacitor is bad/old.

TV won't "talk" with satellite cable

Try to see if you have 5volts for your EEPROM. If the voltage is normal try to replace your EEPROM or try to reprogram it. Your EEPROM is corrupted so that's why it will not store data.

DVD in, have sound but no picture???

Hi,

Initially, a couple of ideas:
  • check the cables from the DVD to the VHS to the TV (I am assuming that the sound is likewise connected to the TV and not to a home receiver system or an amplifier);
  • I am assuming again that you are using RCA and not RF, if yes pls pay special attention to the yellow RCA on both the DVD to VHS and VHS to TV;
  • diagonal roll often indicates a loose ground or a defective cable/RCA connector;
  • verify settings/configurations in all three; DVD, VHS, TV. TV should be set to AV or Video, VHS likewise to A/V INput;
  • try playing a known good VHS tape, if normal playback, problem is between DVD and VHS, if likewise no video, problem is between VHS and TV.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

It may be that the tape you are trying to record from is copy-protected. You will then get a "scrambled" picture
