Hi George,

You may be able to pull them out using tape. That is sellotape then gently pull .They should pop out like
a dented car panel. My understanding is these domes really protect moving coil from dust so should not affect sound. Worst case swop the tweeter.
Ive just bought a pair of revolution 3 with same "fault" so I will let you know how I get on .I am in Electronics trade as profession. It may be possible to gently remove dome using a surgical blade then popping out and gluing on with PVA / Latex glue coloured with black ink if you dont like white appearance.

It is sometimes possible to pull out using fine sewing needle push in then gently pull out as if removing a spell from your finger.

Hope this helps

I've heard of dented dustcaps being repaired with tape, or a needle and a bit of glue (to stick on and pull back out)

Good luck!

Nice speaker.

had the same problem with an mx3 and a middle one, and i could really hear the sound difference between the good and the bad one. I used a 29 gauge needle pushed in just bellow the centre of the dome, then basicly pulled them out, the sound is perfect again :-)

Just bought second hand Mercury MX4-M in visibly good condition. Very little dust visible on cabinet and cones behind the grills. On closer inspection I can see one of the tweeters have oily substance...

The oily coating you see is a damping compound applied by the company to make the sound smooth and less edgy or harsh.Cheaper speakers most of the time sound bright and progressing on to a Hi Fi speakers take time getting used to.In the long run you will realize you will get lesser ear fatigue listening to good Hi Fi speakers .
One test to confirm if the tweeters are working all right is to play a blank FM channel with the FM mute released ( FM mode on Mono ). Turn up the Amplifier volume and you will hear a loud hiss ( like standing next to a waterfall ). Turn the balance control towards each speaker and see if they sound identical.
Next remove the grill and cup the dome tweeter with your hand with out touching the dome itself to block the hi frequency sound, it should sound dull. And when you remove your hand should sound hissy and sharp.Try to do this with the balance control turned towards your speaker.
Sound is very subjective and personnel like taste, don't let anybody talk you into deciding which is better for you.

What is the best configuration for wiring the Tanny MX3 speakers? i note they can be split at the back??

In audio, beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

If you're NOT bi-amping or bi-wiring them, leave the jumpers on.

Unless you were already stating with junk for electronics there is not a lot of evidence that either of those schemes would result in anything audibly superior, but they WILL cost more due to the expense for extra amplifier channels and boutique speaker wire.

Google it.

Recently lost both tweeters in my Reveal 6-D's.Got replacements and highs are back after an easy install. While testing the speakers I noticed a '' plop '' when the woofer travels extensively with heavier...

Hmm, what killed the tweeters? Over-exuberant operation? What's going on with your amp? Is it being pushed into stress or distortion? THAT will kill a speaker faster than clean high power.

Only bass driver working on the pair. tweeter and mid range cones not working.

hi,
check the tweeter and mid range. its coil may become faulty.
for checking the speakers carefully remove the speakers one by one, remove its connections.
and check the speakers with a AAA cell. is it producing cracking sound. if not the speakers coils are burned.
ok

Tannoy reveal speakers have lost treble

What you need to do is connect a 1.5 volt battery to the speaker(s) terminals for a split second. Put your ear to the tweeter at the same time (you might someone to help you do this). If the tweeter "pops" it works, if not you might have blown them. The best way would (to be certain) is to remove the tweeter from the crossover inside the unit.
Tweeters are the first thing to go when the speaker has been connected to an amp that is wrong for them or they have been run at high volume.

Scratchy sound from one hifi speaker

Determine if the noise is only from one driver. If it is gently press all over with your fingers on the cone, so it moves up and down. If it makes the noise then then the cone is catching inside the housing. You will need a new unit if that is the case.
Before you do any of the above swap the speaker with another so you know it's not the amp causing the noise.
If the whole speaker makes the noise and it's not the amp, then it will be a fault on the crossover inside the speaker.

Replacement tweeters for Eyris 1

If any new readers are seeking the same advice, then as at Feb 2016, replacements are available from Real Electronics in the UK, 08452 307 747 - this info from the service line at Tannoy. £63.21 + VAT + delivery. Part no 7900 0621

Much of the advice above is not applicable to the Eyris, folks seem to be posting generic solutions.

Unbolt the hex bolts at the rear of the tweeter assembly. With a screwdriver or similar, push the threaded rods forward to move the front portion of the tweeter housing free from the cabinet. The amount of flexibility in the cables may vary, and some users may have to remove the terminal block (hex bolts again) on the rear, and remove the acoustic wadding to gain flex in the cables.

There are three terminals on the tweeter, with push-fit spade connections. Green for Earth, red/black for signal. Disconnect these, pull tweeter forward, remove threaded rods.

Reassembly is the reversal of removal. Ensure all cables go in same places, etc. etc.

I still suggest calling Tannoy, They are usually very reasonable and will give you a fair price to service a very good product
