Re-charageable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.

If your battery is a Ni-cad type battery and it is not very old, it may have a memory problem. Ni-cad batteries that are not regularly discharged to a flat state and then fully charged develops a shorter full charged capacity. This occurs when you charge a half flat battery regularly, it remembers this state/capacity. The only way to fix this problem is to discharge the battery until it is flat and then charge it to full capacity, this needs to be done quite a number of times until it regains its full capacity. If you cannot regain full capacity, you need to replace it.

If you battery is a Li-ion type of battery and does not holds it charge after a few days, even if the battery indicator shows it as fully charged and when the laptop is running on the battery and it does not last more than 1 hour then the battery needs replacing.

I don't recommend buying a second hand battery, you don't know how long it will last.

It sounds like your battery is out of time. Buy a new one.

Try and change your Processor. It should work. Since the power lights are on, that means that your motherboard is ok.

Will not charge

With both above posts above included I want to add my experience with 3 Toshibas.

1. The A75 series was very prone to the power supply becoming loose on the motherboard. Those who are moderately good at DIY projects can resolder this. There are good photos elsewhere to show how. A loose connector will cause the power LED on your computer to flicker, sometimes the machine will turn off, etc. because the AC supply is unpredictable. Unfortunately, Toshiba and others may sell you a NEW power supply, which then can give you a second, and different, problem. The new power supply may not produce enough AMPS for the A75

2. The A75 series is VERY energy hungry and must have a power supply of 19v and 6.3 AMPS. The amps is CRUCIAL. The newer Toshibas run on 3.4 amps and a replacement power supply of the wrong size will show a green LED for power, it will charge your Battery in the system off( i.e computer plugged in but turned off mode) but it will not allow windows to run, even though it will allow you into BIOS setup. This combination means you have to charge the battery in the OFF mode and then when the computer runs, it is actually running from the battery, not 120v AC. The battery then runs down and the sytm shuts off.

So look at the Toshiba Label on the bottom of your laptop and read the correct voltage and AMPS!!! The 6.3 AMP power supply is BIG (6.5x2.5x1.5 inches) and is available new online for about $27.00. This problem solved my power problems on both an A75-S2292 and an A25.

Good luck

Power Port Damaged

YES it's simple and CHEAP... But you will not be able to do it yourself, unless your power jack is like most IBMs where it's all screw in or unless you are very good at soldering... If it's the kind that needs to be soldered, you will need to take it to an electronic tech guy who can SOLDER it for you...

But first, check and ORDER the correct POWER JACK for your Toshiba laptop from EBAY, it's cheap, maybe under $10 bucks... Then pay the tech to solder it for you, maybe another $20 buck... It's that simple...

Here is the link to your POWER JACK and YES it needs to be SOLDERED on... Good Luck...

Problem During Boot-Up

several things it could be but im going to look at the obvious the battery and cord hook up
laptops when plugged into contstant 120 power the battery is supposed to go into stand by mode and shut battery off so power dont leak into battery
if you have low battery with it plugged into 120 the comp will still think the battery is powering the laptop if battery dead then comp shuts down lack of power

other thing is somehow you caught a virus that reboots comp from dos screen mode
the main thing i always ask is what was the last thing that happened before it did what its doing now
example= was there a power surge pop up screens ect.
