this sounds like a hardware or driver issue
restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue

test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) Sata make sure they have dust free secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty ?

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause this problem a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust

if you remove the graphics card to clean the socket replace it

restart the computer the found new hardware wizard should activate

or you might try

Restart your computer
during the boot process you will see on the screen a certain key to press usually the Delete or F2 to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
hope it helps

SOURCE: Black Screen / Computer Stays in Standby Mode

Completely remove the battery and unplug the power cord for a few minutes. Reinsert battery and power up. You can also hit F8 when starting and see if you can boot into safe mode.

SOURCE: My HP dv9208nr laptop screen is black after I power it on.

Hi:
I am sorry to tell you that this series of HP laptops has a known problem with the video chip on the motherboard. There are thousands of complaints to HP about the DV9000 seriies laptop, and yours has the same sympoms that others have reported. HP extended the warranty on some, but most people lost their shirts. There are a few people who have had mixed success in repairing the motherboards, but often they have to get replaced. If you did a google search on yor laptop problem, you will find lots of info.
The bottom line is that your laptop is expensive to fix, and it is a known problem!

the black screen could be a heat issue with the video card .. call HP icon_phone.gif 1-800-227-8164 , find out if they had a recall on this series

i know the DV6 had a big issue

Your hard drive has probably gone bad and it does not have a bootable device to use on start-up.

Unplugged it. After looking for a new tv online I decided to try getting it to work. So, plugged it back in and held down the power button, a red light came on, held down the power button again and an orange light came on, held down power button again and green light came on and tv powered on. This was simply a case of trial and success!

Mod.Hp980PT, red and top green light flash, no heat

This is a very common feature on these types of simple, high-volume, low-cost home appliances known as a safety fault. This fault will temporarily (or permanently) disable the appliance and happens for several reasons: (1) an over-temp (high heat) occurrence, (2) an over-power (power surge) occurrence, (3) an under-power (power outage or trickle power) occurrence, (4) an over-time occurrence (auto-off fails), (5) a short-circuit occurrence (exposed/crossed/frayed wires, etc.). Fortunately, it uses a digital "fuse" system and can be reset by the user. However, there is no universal reset process on SoftHeat products so you just have to play with it until you figure it out (customer service dept is no help). Mine is a Kaz SoftHeat HP980PT, with a red power indicator/power-off button and 4 green heat setting buttons. Mine faulted after a heavy storm caused multiple power outages and power surges in my neighborhood. The green light on the highest heat setting button was flashing on mine. Here's how I fixed it: (1) unplugged both ends of power cord and straightened out the cord, then plugged back in to the heating pad end. (2) While holding down the flashing light button, I plugged back in to the wall outlet. (3) While still holding down the flashing light button, pressed and held down the red power-off button, then while still holding down the red power button, I released the flashing light button, followed by releasing the power-off button. This stopped the flashing green light and caused the red power indicator light to stay on (steady-on). It works fine now. Note: Some models have an actual hard fuse in addition to the digital fault feature or possibly only a simple fuse (without the digital fault system). These fuses can the found at many retail stores and then very easily replaced. I hope this helps some of you!!!

Try taking out the battery and try turning it on with it plugged in. If it works, you need a new battery.

The following procedure will re-establish the communication link between the Headphones and the Wireless adapter, this is called "pairing". Before you start please make sure both the headphones and the wireless adapter are fully charged and turned off.
Note: The headphones and the wireless adapter come pre-paired from the factory.
1. Press and hold the power button on the headphones. See Figure 1.

Once the headphones is paired with the adapter, the LED on the headphones will blink blue once every two seconds. See Figure 6.

When the adapter is paired the LED will be solid blue. See Figure 7.
receiversolid.jpg
Figure 7
The adapter may continue to blink red/blue for a few seconds even after the headphones LED starting blinking blue. This is normal; the adapter may take a few additional seconds before the LED turn solid blue.
Once the headphones and the adapter are paired, it is not necessary to pair them again even if the batteries on both units are completely drained.
Additional Note: Repeated pairing will not improve the sound quality or give the headphones and the adapter a cleaner connection.
