When I turned it on I had a black screen with num lock & shift key flashing lights with no fans, so I held power button down for 30 seconds & now black screen, only red lights (internet adapter, volume button) & fans are working or will only have red light on internet button why? help?
this sounds like a hardware or driver issue the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) Sata make sure they have dust free secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause this problem a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust if you remove the graphics card to clean the socket replace it restart the computer the found new hardware wizard should activate or you might try
restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer
you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue
test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty ?
Restart your computer
during the boot process you will see on the screen a certain key to press usually the Delete or F2 to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
hope it helps

Completely remove the battery and unplug the power cord for a few minutes. Reinsert battery and power up. You can also hit F8 when starting and see if you can boot into safe mode.

Hi:
I am sorry to tell you that this series of HP laptops has a known problem with the video chip on the motherboard. There are thousands of complaints to HP about the DV9000 seriies laptop, and yours has the same sympoms that others have reported. HP extended the warranty on some, but most people lost their shirts. There are a few people who have had mixed success in repairing the motherboards, but often they have to get replaced. If you did a google search on yor laptop problem, you will find lots of info.
The bottom line is that your laptop is expensive to fix, and it is a known problem!

you may want to reset to factory deafult setting, using the recovery CD set you have
if you dont have the set , go to www.restoredisks.com
the black screen could be a heat issue with the video card .. call HP 1-800-227-8164 , find out if they had a recall on this series
i know the DV6 had a big issue

Your hard drive has probably gone bad and it does not have a bootable device to use on start-up.
Start with the headset powered on. Press and hold down
the call control button while also rotating the multi function dial
upward (away from the light) until the indicator light on the headset
starts flashing red then green. When prompted for passkey, enter
0000.
For the Plantronics M1000 (discontinued):
Hit and hold the volume/mute switch in until the indication light starts blinking.
For the Plantronics M1500 & A500 adapter
(discontinued): Turn the headset on and the adapter off. On the headset
push in and hold the mute/volume dial until the indicator light begins
to flash. On the adapter press and hold the blue power button for 10
seconds. The light on the adapter will flash once after 3 seconds-
continue to hold the power button for another-7 seconds until the
light flashes red. If the pairing is successful, the headset will
sound a tone and both the headset and adapter lights will turn off.
For both the Plantronics M1000/M1500 (discontinued):
If you remove the battery cover from the headset and then remove the
battery itself. On the Green PC board itself there will be a letter
followed by 4 numbers. These 4 numbers are your personal PIN code.
You can also use the Plantronics Bluetooth Pairing Guide
