USB Flash drives use a standard windows driver. This means that the first thing to test is to see if any other USB drives works on your dell laptop. The second thing to test is to use a different USB port. This should eliminate hardware failure. I would recommend simply toing into device manager and look for the universal serial bus controllers. Listed will be all the USB drives. You can simply uninstall all the drives and restart the computer. This will force windows to reinstall the drivers.
By trying to use it I take that to mean you go to My Computer and select the drive you believe it to be.
Try going to My Computer with the flash drive unplugged and then plug it in while watching My Computer for a new drive letter to appear. That will be the one to use.
If you select the wrong one you will get the message you are experiencing.
Venture USB contain two
partitions - one named 'Public' and the other 'Secure'. Unfortunately
we
have noticed a compatibility problem between these drives and some
computers running Windows Vista. In these cases only one drive is
showing in 'My Computer' - usually the 'Secure' drive. As a result you
are unable to access the user manuals and software which are in the
'Public' drive and cannot alter the partition sizes to allow access to
the entire capacity.
Please follow the below instructions to resolve the problem:
1. Connect the USB to the computer
2. Please unzip and run the attached program
3. After completion please unplug the USB
4. Re-insert the USB to the USB port
5. You should now be able to access both drives.

If you are using Win98 the problem is the USB ports themselves. You must locate and install USB drivers to make them functional. Other than that the USB should reconise the flash pen after a few minutes. Now if it see it, to store in the drive, Save the information to a file/folder and then right click and choose SEND TO and pick the letter drive that is your flash pen and that will do it. If you can do drag and drop open the window that has your info and open a window that shows your pen drive left click and hold it down a drag it to the pen drive - when you see the + just release the left click and it should be on the pen drive. Hope this helps you, good luck, please leave a rating, thank you kindly
