StopBadware.org released a badware alert about PC SpeedScan Pro today:
We find that PC SpeedScan Pro is badware because it does notdisclose the fact that it installs additional "Performance Center"software and fails to remove this software when PC SpeedScan Pro isuninstalled, and because it repeatedly displays notifications thatexaggerate the performance impact of various ‘errors’ found on users’computers, in order to induce users to purchase the full version of thesoftware.
The software was distributed via a website called finallyfast.com.
We attempted to contact the software publisher, Ascentive, via e-mail, but we did not receive a response.
We currently recommend that users do not install PC SpeedScan Pro,unless users are comfortable with the behaviors we have identified oruntil the application is updated to be consistent with therecommendations made in this alert.

I had been hearing a lot of good things about the AscentiveSoftware release of PC SpeedScan Pro. It claims to get those gigabytesof data you have accumulated straightened out and get your computerrunning like new again. PC SpeedScan claims to fix registry errors thatcan make your computer slow while it sorts through the errors as youare accessing your programs and files. Apparently it does not work toowell. See our recommended computer optimization programs here.
After hearing some of the complaints about the Ascentive software, you may want to stick with computer optimization programs that have stood the test of time. Here are some good reviews on SpeedUpMyPC 2009, TuneUp Utilities 2008, and Optimize 2.0 - definitely worth a look!

I would personally recommend ncleaner. It has been my hands-down champion for months now.

Trustme Albert, stay away from the ascentive con-artist program. ncleanerwill clean up your machine, and I also recommend you scan with Spybot,as Ascentive might have dumped some cookies on yr machine.

Good Luck and Season's Greetings!

I get an error message regarding APC Main. It tells me I need to reinstall Performance Center.

Do you have any software installed from this company: http://www.ascentive.com/ ?
If so, remove it from your system, using add/remove programs. It is crapware. See this link. and this link.
Then I recommend you download an antimalware program for your system and scan it to check for other possible problems. Unfortunately, most of my recommendations won't work on your system. SAS is very highly regarded, even for newer systems, and available here. You could also try this or this. Both are excellent companies. I'm not sure the BOClean download will work for Win98 any longer, as they just recently discontinued it as a standalone app and you must now install internet security. If you do so, make sure to leave the AV portion turned off so it doesn't conflict with your current av.
Anyway, choose one and run a scan to check for other problems, and remove any that are found.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
