Plenty of downloads available for your motherboard at ASUS.

You likely received a driver disk with the board however if you navigate through the downloads menu and enter your model and also read some of the faq pages you may find there is several others with same problem.

You must enter general search terms in the download area and specify product, series, and model info. I looked for the fun of it though I don't personally have that board specifically and found others with same problem! Try searching keyword in left menu area; search .... "sata driver".
You should then find the answer you wanted!

SOURCE: how to install window XP without floppy disk on asus P5RD1-VM

dear mike,
I too face the same problem, here the window xp cdrom did not detect sata drive. but the bios detect sata and list the drive during bootup. since P5RD1 uses ali-chip set, I think only option is through floppy. we will not be able load the driver and update the system later because no drive exist if only sata drive is present. I do not know whether to say Asus motherboard is faulty. I have seen similar procedure for Ndiva boards also.

bye
Hemachandran.

Therre u find all nessesary drivers for your motherboad. You dont need to buy a floopy, use a usb-memmory-stick, it works to.

Never trust that XP for sure instaling all drivers needed for sata on any else divice on a pc, sometimes you have to instal drivers by you self to make sure that the divice working correct.

Good luck!

I have an asus p5rd1-vm motherboard. I found problems on installing windows xp using sata hdd. Please help me to install windows xp2 as i am not using floppy drive.

The Windows installation CD does not have a SATA driver. You need a SATA driver of a floppy disk or turn off SATA native driver in the BIOS.
Please click on this link and follow my instructions on how to Install Windows on a SATA hard drive :-
http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive
I suggest you install SP3 (service pack 3) rather than SP2, it contains the latest bug fixes. The SP3 cannot be installed from a floppy, it can be downloaded from Microsoft, it is a large file approx 300Mb, I suggest you install it from a CD if you can borrow one.

Sata HDD NOT DETECTING IN XP SETUP

If you're using a scsi card and connecting the hard drive to the card you need to have the scsi set-up floppy disk. When the blue screen starts during windows installation watch the bottom of the screen. It will tell you to press F6 key then to insert the floppy disk.
If you're using a sata drive connected directly to the motherboard (not in a raid configuration) you shouldn't need anything but the windows disk. The motherboard drivers and utilities disk should have the files to create the scsi install disk.

How to install window XP without floppy disk on asus P5RD1-VM

Hi sheikhun, just ignore windows F6 to add special SATA drivers. Install windows, when finished use your Asus CD and install missing drivers from CD. Than run windows updates.
You should not have a problem, if while in your bios your SATA drive is shown in the main menu. Than check the Boot section of bios. The boot order should be.
CDROM drive 1st. SATA drive 2nd.
Disconnect any other hard drives data cable while installing windows. When you finish installing windows & installing the drivers from the CD & windows updates you can shut down the PC & reconnect the data cables you may have disconnected.

If your bios does not see your serial ATA SATA drive than your SATA onboard controller is defective. Return to Asus for replacement/repair.

I can't use HDD sata on mainboard ASUS P5RD1-VM

Things need to be turned on in your bios patrohi. This is why windows didn't boot to the SATA. You need to use your manual & make sure the, Serial ATA Controller is [Enabled]
Within the Advanved menue under SouthBridge Configuration.
At the Main menue the SATA drive should be listed.
Boot settings need to change as well. At Boot Settings Configurations. Make sure your SATA drive is listed.
Boot order should list like, Floppy 1st, CDROM 2nd, SATA 3rd. The SATA will not list as a SATA but the model number of the SATA drive. Once all these settings are set save & exit. Your drive should show up for work & the windows CD should load.
