Why won't my Acer laptop play compact discs?

Most units are designed to "autoplay" audio CDs when they are inserted. When they fail to do so, it could be because the CD is dirty or scratched and was bot recognized, the media player that you are using to play the CD was not in a state that it could autoplay the CD, or there could be a problem with the Disk drive or PC itself. Whenever a CD fails to play upon insertion, go to the "My Computer" icon (win7 or below) and see if the CD/DVD drive shows a disk inserted. If so, clicking on the drive will often start the playback.

DVD's won't play in my TSST corp CDDVDW SH-224BB. Diablo played fine in it, but no DVD's.

Try this...
Go to device manager right click on and un-install the DVD drive. Then restart the computer and wait for the "Found New Hardware" balloon message to disappear. That reloads the drivers. Then put in a dvd and see if it works.
Also, you may have inadvertently turned off autoplay. If so, turn it back on. See here...

How do i install a software for my computer.

Many software programs, games, and utilities have an AutoPlay feature that will automatically start the setup screen for the software program when the CD is placed in the computer. If your program, game, or utility contains this feature, run the installation through the screen that appears after inserting the disc.

If you are installing a program, game, or utility that does not contain this feature or you are installing a program from a floppy diskette, follow the below steps.

  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Within the My Computer window, open the drive that contains the installation files. For example, if the files are on a floppy diskette, open the A: drive. If they're on a CD or DVD open the D: drive or the letter of the disc drive.
  3. Within the drive that contains your files, locate either a setup or install file. Double-clicking on this file should start the installation for the program, game, or utility. If you see multiple setups or install files, try to locate the Application file or double-click each of setup or install files until you find the file that starts the installation. Many times the icons associated with the installation files have the same name.

An alternate method of starting the installation in Microsoft Windows

  1. Click Start and Run.
  2. In the Run Window, type x:\setup or x:\install where x is the letter of the drive you wish to start the installation from. For example, if you are attempting to install a program from the floppy disk drive you would type a:\setup or a:\install.

I can not load rainbow six3 raven shield on my pc it has 3 disc what do I do. Big Bytes-www.red-ant.com.au

First you need to place the disc labelled "Disc 1" or "Install" into your DVD drive on your PC. Then, double click My Computer (Start Menu, Computer if using Windows 7), right click on the DVD drive (it will probably says Rainbow Six: Raven Shield) then click "Autoplay". This should then start the installation. Continue through the installation as you would any other program, then change discs when prompted. Simple! Hope this helps! Don't forget to rate my reply!

Drive not responding

Windows uses autorun or autoplay to detect removable discs such as cds and dvds.

Some cd and dvdroms, especially software installers, have an autorun.inf file which forces the disc to start.

Firstly Autoplay. Your media player may have been set to disable this function so your discs do not automatically run. Or you may have several suitable media players installed, but you haven't set one as your default player. Make sure you choose a default player, then set it to automatically run when a disc is inserted.

Secondly, you should be able to manually run the disc by going to My Computer then left click the dvd or cd drive. You may be prompted to select a player or program to run the disc.

Thirdly, "autorun" may have been disabled in registry.
You can check this by looking at the following key in registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveAutoRun
This will be followed by Bit 0 for drive A and Bit 1 for drive B etc. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS, DO NOT TOUCH REGISTRY!!!

Fourthly, as kykeaton says, you may have a faulty drive.

autorun may have been deliberately disabled in registry.
