Similar happened to mine after a windows update on about the same date. The computer recognises that the printer is attached, but will not recognise the software disc put in. Manual attempts to install and also an update of drivers does not solve the issue. I run windows XP and it is a Dell Inspiron 6000 lap top,

Out of warranty and so Dell are unable to help

SOURCE: dell 1700 image drum

After you replace the imaging drum, you should reset the imaging drum's counter. To reset the counter, YOU MUST LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN AND THEN press and hold the Cancel button until all lights flash in sequence.

My printer is a HP- 6210, Message: "remove and

Hello Cliff, welcome to FixYa.

Hard Reset the printer by doing the following:
  • Remove all the ink cartridges.
  • While the printer in ON, unplugged the power cable from the power source.
  • Disconnect the USB cable at the back of the printer (if your printer is connected through a USB cable)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Connect back the USB cable.
  • Plug the power cable to its power source.
  • Turn ON the printer if it does not turn ON automatically.
  • Install the ink cartridges.
  • If the printer prompts for an print head alignment, please do so.

If the problem persists, replace the ink cartridge. The cartridge might be defective since you already have tried to clean the contacts.

Keep me posted.

I can't print nothing from my PC or trough network, but still I can Scan, Fax, etc. I'm using Windows 7 Home Basic, I already installed the driver ( "Connection via USB Cable" ) and I have plenty enough ink ... I checked the Settings, Test Page is OK, but nothing else want to be pinted. I had a problem with my MFC 5890 in the very begining ( nearly 2 weeks ago ) so I had to unplug and than plug in the USB Cable and in this situation the printing of my "pending documents" was successful, but from few days ago there is no such a thing that could make it print. Keep getting "Printer Offline" from Dell 1700 printer

go to the start menu
click on run
type services.msc
on the list go to Print Spooler
double click on print spooler and select automatic on startup type
now press on start.

if that doesn't work go to this microsoft website and click on the Fix It icon with the little man holding a wrench. run this and it will fix it.

Printer goes through the motions but text does not print

Let's first test the printer independant of your computer:
Try printing a test page using the instructions here: http://www.ehow.com/how_2006016_perform-test-epson.html. I hope your model printer is listed there. If not, try to find instructions specific to your model in your model's user guide or elsewhere on the internet.

If this works and printing from your computer doesn't, then:
(???Bad print drivers???) Reload the print drivers on your computer.
(???Bad cable???) Try replacing the printer/USB cable that connects this printer to your computer.
(???Bad USB port???) Try using a different port to connect the cable to your computer.

If none of this works you either have a faulty ink cartridge or a more serious issue with the printer. Depending upon the model, unfortunately, it might be cheaper to replace than repair.

1700 printer

How did you install the printer?
I have found that if you just let your computer recognise new hardware, it really has a hard time with the USB printing to the 1700's.

Originally there was a disk that came with the 1700 printer. You do want to use that.
During the install, you run the software, and then turn on the printer. (You can have the printer on during the install, but ignore the Windows Wizards that come up).
If you don't have the original 1700 install disk, you can download it from Dell.

The problem is with USB port configuration. These little 1700's are just a pain sometimes if not installed the way they were originally designed.

Brother MFC-440CN won't print color

Did you use generic carts?

Do use only original brother ink carts!
Only these have special cleaning fluids mingled with the ink.

There are several advantages, too:

You can run a special cleaning mode (DO insert original carts at first!!!)

Press menue then start bk copy then fourtimes arrow-up.
machine should switch to maintenance mode (buttons will flash).
press 7 then 6 then 4 then start bk copy. machine will refresh ink within the tubes and the print head and run a special cleaning routine. when finished press 7 then 6 then 3 then start bk copy to run a power cleaning. leave the maintenance mode by pressing 9 then 9.

The machine should print without proböems. If there is a poor quality left, the printhead is affected by bad ink and cant be fixed anymore.
