My TV was taking forever to turn on

At first the TV would take around 1 to two minutes to turn on, then after awhile of trying it turned into ten minutes. I would hit the power button and the orange stand by light would flash then it would just continue to stay off. I would have to turn it on by hitting the power button a few times and then would hold it for a second a white screen would appear then I would turn it off and back on and it would work. Now it won't turn on at all the standby light isn't even on I have unplugged it and plugged it back in. I left it unplugged for a day and then tried again still nothing.

I opened it up and I notices some bulging Capacitors. Would that be the reason for the problems stated above?

  • Anonymous May 16, 2012

I was wondering if you had a link to a trusted site where I could purchase the capacitors?

YES SIREEE, THE BULDGING CAPACITORS ARE MOST LIKELY YOUR PROBLEM. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THEM OUT??? IF YOU DO, I WOULD SUGGEST REPLACING THEM WITH NICHICON OR PANASONIC CAPACITORS.

I have watched a few tutorials and it seems pretty straight forward. I just need to get a Soldering gun and a capacitor set.

Does the type of soldering gun matter? I was looking to go to walmart to get one. I am pretty tight on cash so I can't really buy something to expensive.

If you have any suggestions on where to find the capacitors for a good price let me know.

    Hey Nate,

typically a 25 to 30watt soldering iron would be sufficient for most electronics repair work. As far as the capacitors, I recommend sticking with the same capacitance but you can go up in voltage rating. If the caps are 1000UF 16V, it's ok to replace then with 1000UF 35V.

SOURCE: Power is there, but TV won't turn on

stored voltages are high no touching these circuts becuase they hold charges and alot of screws.
fualty capacitors you say after a while it stays on theres a full charge in the unit theres some type of discharging effect on the set after its off for a while. voltage goes to low or unstable after it is off for a while. your better off getting the service docs for this set if you want to diy..other wise get a tv tech to check it for you. hope this helps

Look at the power supply, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Please post back what you find.
I have the same model for my bed room, my power supply blew up beyond repair, had to buy a used one, now the LCD controller board is going bad when it gets hot. Not a very good TV.

SOURCE: my vp322 visio will not power on

Power supply in your TV went from bad to dead. You can remove rear cover and try to locate bad capacitors (they will have bulged tops instead of flat ones). Replace them and see if it's going to resurrect TV. If not - whole Power Supply board have to be replaced.
Regards.

My dryer takes forever to dry anything and often times will not turn on when i press start after it's been ran for a 70 minute cycle but will turn itself on after sitting for awhile my dryer is

This caused by one of two possible things. Either you have poor air flow, or a clogged vent preventing air from flowing freely and therefor making the dryer short cycle, which in turn will take you two or three times to dry yor clothes, or the heating element has gone bad, burnt in half and is making contact with the case to provide it just enough power to barely heat. The second thing is a very rare occurance. I would turn the dryer on, find out where the air vents out to, and with the dryer running, go to where it vents and check to see if there is a strong flow of air. 9 times out of 10 that is going to be your problem. Another way to check air flow is to just pull the vent off the back and let the dryer run and see if your clothes dry faster. If you do it that way and they still take a long time to dry, then you'll probably need to replace the heating element

TV Takes Forever to Turn on

There is a fault with the power supply inside your tv, It could be a simple solder joint problem or could be a more serious issue.

Just replaced lamp/housing and now tv turns off after 2 minutes of being on. Green light flashes continually(about 30 sec.) then tv turns back on and the cycle continues. The tv is a sony bravia...

Strange situation, have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes and letting the TV cool. I have a older 2006 Sony SXRD rear projection and it takes forever to turn back on if you shut it off then turn it back on. Check this link and maybe its giving you a blinking code. Try counting the number of blinks. Hope this helps.

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

Takes awhile for tv to come on!

Hello Ruben,
This type of failure is common on these TVs. The power supply might need to be replaced due to bulging capacitors. If you are able to replaced the capacitors, it is a cheaper alternative.

This set has a modification that needs to be done. It will also start turning on by itself and changing channels rapidly. It's two weeks old. Take it back to the Retailer or if that is not an option contact LG at 1-800-243-0000 to get a local servicer in your area.

Tuning in takes ages whilst warms up

IF your TV is not one of the real old ones, you have a problem with the automatic tuning system. Some component in this circuit most likely a capacitor or coil is changing its electrical properties due to temperature which in turn causes the set to be off frequency until it warms up. A capacitor (condenser) can do this quite often. Stargazer
