Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook
I am using a DEll Inspiron 6400 laptop from the last 2 years.
4 months before there was a virus attacka nd ma laptop crashed.
I had to install the Windows 32 bit XP professional operating system from a local source since the restore point of ma laptop was also unaccessable.
After the new installation, there were no drivers. So from support.dell.com I installed the Intel proset wireless adapter and the n/w driver.
But I am not able to nstall any sound card drivers. Whichever driver, i Install it says, the device not supported.
Also after installing the network adapter, my / key is not working. if i press the / key noting will hapeen. but after a few minutes, the / character starts appearing continuously. If no editor is open, then the beep sound comes from the system.
Also I am not able to install the bluetoooth device emulator too.
Please gimme a solution for these problems.
The best place to download drivers is always the manufacturer's website. The Dell drivers for this system are found here :)
The Dell website is very good for providing the correct drivers, I use it all the time. The problem might be in the sequence in which you installed the drivers. ALWAYS start with the chipset driver, as this gives the OS access to the various motherboard components that the other drivers rely upon.
Also, there may be several motherboards used for the same model so you have to install the correct drivers for your motherboard. The Inspiron 6400 has 3 different audio drivers. The most common was actually the last listed, the Sigmatel STAC. But I believe this model also uses special HiDefinition sound.
Read about Microsoft UAA (kb888111.exe) from here:
But UAA is not available directly from Microsoft. A good link to download kb888111.exe here:
Then install the sound driver. It should recognize the sound card and your audio should work.
