Question about YouTube Videos

YouTube Videos Stop Loading; Can't go to my email message links.

Hello. First, I'm not that computer-literate, so please don't laugh at me : ) Hokay, we have a windows desktop pc. My dsl gateway modem died and I bought a new one - actiontec to be exact. I tried to set it up, messed up the settings but finally got the gateway to work. Wireless devices pick up the signal okay. We can watch YouTube videos on our wireless devices. The problem - my desktop settings are SO messed up I YouTube videos will only play for about 1 minute, then stops loading - stops playing. Also, I can't read my email. When I log in and go to my inbox, when I click the links for each message, nothing happens. Also, every other time I go to a new web page, I get a message that the page can't be found; I reload a couple of times then finally get there. Same problem with both Firefox and IE. HELPPPPP. Thanks : ) Oh, and giving you my daughter's email address since I can't read mine. : ( : ( : (

Here's the results of a ping test I think I did. What does this mean? Please explain in very simple layperson's terms. Thanks for your response! : )

  • Lindazkewl Nov 22, 2008

Hi. I'm still having the same problem. I did the ping test and posted the results. Thanks.

  • Lindazkewl Nov 22, 2008

Hi there. Hokay, when I did the start run thing, I got an error message saying that "windows cannot find Ipconfig/dnsflush. . .yada yada. When I did the second part, I got the following message: Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: clearing the dns cache.

I think when I was trying to configure the new modem I really messed up some settings somewhere.

Thank you for explaining clearly what to do so that I can understand and thanks for your help. And, help! : )

  • Lindazkewl Nov 23, 2008

Shouldn't be my internet connection; everything was working wonderfully until I installed the modem and messed around with my settings. I just need to get the settings right.

  • Lindazkewl Nov 24, 2008

Okay, so I uninstalled Firefox; now I can't reinstall it because, several times, I got the message "can't install . . . server was reset. I also previously reset the modem. I suspect that it might have something to do with the Norton settings - sometimes I've gotten a message that there was an attempted attack on my computer when I open web pages. I've tried tweeking the settings to allow me to do what I need. Sigh. sigh. sigh.

  • Lindazkewl Nov 27, 2008

Well, I saw one response that had several, easy-to-understand steps; I wanted to come back to it a bit later to try the steps. I see that whenever you log out from here and come back, the previous responses don't appear anymore. Sigh. So I'm reposting and hopefully from my comments someone can kind of understand the problem that I'm having. Thanks a million for your responses.

Aside from everything else, you might check to make sure that you're running the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. You can download it for free from Adobe's website. Hope this helps! Have a great day!

Hello,

First i wil like you to tell me if you have the IP configurated correctly:

  1.  Go to Start > Conect to > Show all conections > Select your current Conection > Select the tab named "Suport"
  2. Click on Details
  3. On the right colum named "Values", How many values do you have?
  4. You should have:
  • Fisical DIrection
  • IP direction
  • Subnet Mask
  • Default gateway
  • DHCP server
  • Obtained Conexion
  • Conexion Caducates
  • DNS Server (you might have from 1-4 diferent numbers)
Try this.
  1. Unplug both Ethernet (looks like the phone cable but thicker) and  Power cable from the Modem
  2. Wait 1 minute
  3. Plug back the Power Cord
  4. wait 10 seconds
  5. Plug the Ethernet Cable.
If that dosent sole your problem

  1. Click on Start > Run > type "CMD" (without the quotes)
  2. Type "IPconfig" (without the quotes, and copy on a piece of paper the information you have)
  3. Type "IP/renew" (without the quotes)
Go to www.google.com and see if internet is working.

If so, and if everything is going good so far, let me know.

    Hello,

To make sure your DNS settings arent messed up do this:

Start > Conect to > Show all conections > Select your current Conection

Click on properties > (a new window will apear) scrol down and select INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP)
    > Make sure both options are obtained automaticly.

If they are you must then call your internet provider and they should fix the problem.

    Good luck,
    Dahaka

Yeah that happens to me sometimes. I guess it's just the internet connection.. for some reason packets aren't being sent or received at that moment.

Hi,

Offhand, I would venture that your computer is still "paired" with your old modem. A couple of ideas you can try:

  • Start, Run, on the small window that will pop up, type "ipconfig /flushdns" less the quotes;
  • Open your Control Panel and click to open "Network Connections". Right click on the icon below the LAN or High-Speed Internet, click on Properties. On the Property box that will open, pls make sure both the boxes near the bottom are checked. Then inside the "This connection uses..." scroll down till Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is shown and highlight it (click on it). Click on the Properties button. A new box will popup. Make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is ticked. OK, OK.
  • If none of the above will do the trick, right click on the two small monitor icon near the clock. Click on "Repair". A new small window will appear, note the message, Close. Right click again on the double monitor icon. Click on Status. Click on the Support tab. Click on the Details button, note the numbers listed and pls write them down somewhere. Post back here with the numbers.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

temporarily uninstall your antivirus, or at least disable it and try all those that have failed before. You may also want to consider replacing it.

Install the latest version of "java" here is the web address:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

and Adobe (macromedia):

http://www.soft32.com/download_500.html

all you have to is download them, copy them on to a memory stick or any other form of removeable device, copy the files to the problem desktop and "double left click" on them to install them, they will install fast, and may ask you to restart the pc.
when the pc reboots you should be able to access youtube and video sites
programmes like live messeger rely on these to make them work

hope this helps

this ping test has meant that a connection to a certain site "pinged out" or had been refused!! the most common cause of this is your "anti-virus software" blocking you from the site because it regards it as "dangerous" any other causes are to do with browser software you use, for example "internet explorer", "mozilla firefox" etc, another is "add-ons" (as i explained before with java and macromedia).
Try re-installing the browser you use and make sure you reboot the computer for changes to be saved to the registry

    hope this helps

    regards

ok you have not got anywhere, this means the operating system has been attacked by hackers or has just plain degraded. I would only recommend this if all other options have been exausted and nothing has worked. This means you have to recover or reinstall the operating system on the desktop to return it to default settings.
Did you get a recovery disk with the pc?

More than loading problem seem to be a connection problem.
Check the settings of your network

Anytime your network refuses to send and receive data properly , your first troubleshooting step should be to check fof problems with the physical connection between the local computer and the rest of the network. Assuming your network connection uses the TCP/IP protocol , your most potent weapon is the Ping ulity. When you use the Ping command with no parameters , Windows sends four echo datagrams , small Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) packets, to the address you specify. If the machine at the other end of the connection replies, you know that the network connection between the two points is alive.
To use the Ping command , open a Windows command prompt window (Cmd.exe in Windows XP) and tape the command ping target_name (where target_name is an IP address or the name of another host machine ).
If all the packets you send come back properly in roughly the same time , your TCP/IP connection is fine and you can focus your troubleshooting efforts elsewhere.
