My HP Pavilion a1120n is running very slow I re formated it a few time over the years. Recently I added more ram and ran great till i clean it with air may , then ran very slow, so I remove some ram then...

Did you replace the hard drive? It is quite possible there is an issue with the drive at that age. YOu could try an application called "SpeedFan" or "HD Tune" and run a S.M.A.R.T test on it. This will help you determine the drive status. You can run a benchmark with "Hd Tune" and determine the speed of the drive. If you want to post your results, I will certainly help out further.

Antivirus protection scan

It *WILL* install a virus if you allow it to. Sometimes these programs make it very difficult to NOT download their ****. It's telling you to download something in the hopes that you WILL accept the download.

***Do NOT download anything that you do not WANT to download. ***

Anytime you get to a website like this, make a note of it to never visit it again. Anytime you want to download something, make SURE it is what you want and nothing more. At the end of the day, it is NOT worth risk. The wrong decision could ruin your computer, lose your files, misdirect your websearches, slow your internet connection, among some of the results. The internet can be a very dangerous place.

Better to err on the side of caution.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Do an antivirus update and run a scan at LEAST once a week. Even the safest websites can put **** on your computer.

All videos are very choppy such as HULU or utube and machine seems to run slow in general . Start up and shut down seem to be slow also.

Downloaded videos can sometimes play "faster" than your Internet connection can download them, in the same way that parents can never keep enough food in the refrigerator to feed their teenagers.

Start downloading the video, and click 'pause' to let the download continue for 30 to 60 seconds, and then click 'play', to see if the video is "smoother" when the "buffered" content is being read from your local disk-drive.

If not, then the "performance" of your computer needs to be investigated.
How much RAM in your computer?
Windows 2000? XP? Vista? 7?
Is your anti-virus software working correctly?
Have you recently done a "full" virus-scan -- computer-viruses can cause your computer to slow down.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer, and then reboot.
Does the reboot go faster with _NO_ Internet connection?

Try installing antivirus software like Quickheal, Kaspersky.
Tune up your PC using a Registry Cleaner like "Eusing Registry Cleaner" or go Microsoft Web Site & try their free registry cleaner.

High Speed and viruses

Slowness can be caused by viruses.

Run a virus scan and see what comes up.
If there are viruses on the computer, you may want to consider Restoring your computer to factory settings.

But before you do that
Run a virus scan; go to Symantec and run it or download AVG free.

If you decide to restore to factory settings, I will be glad to help you. Understand, you will loose everything on the computer, and you will have to run all your programs again, set up your network connection and email. Very time consuming.
