Are you referring to an actual external modem? Or a router? You shouldn't need to connect a modem to modem... more info please!

Connecting to my network

Its not a modem its a router. A Modem plugs in to a Telephone line. A Router plugs in to a Broad Band Line. A Modem connects to a RJ11 Cable. A Router Connects to a Coaxial Cabal, the router connects to a computer via wireless or ethernet after that. A Modem connects to a computer using RJ11 or RJ45 Cat4 Ethernet. Very different.

My dimension 3100 is not detecting a modem

Sir,
Respectfully please first check if there is a modem in the desktop PC since the dimension 3100 is not pre-equipped with a modem. you have to attach an internal modem manually on one or more PCI slots on the mother board.
the process is given here....

1
  • Turn off the computer. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Disconnect the power cord, attached peripheral devices and any other cables.

  • 2 Locate the cover release latch on top of the computer, near the back. Place the computer on its side, with the removable cover facing upwards. Slide the cover release latch back and lift the removable cover off of the computer. Set the removable cover aside.

  • Locate the PCI and PCI Express slots near the bottom of the system board. Select a slot that corresponds with your internal modem card. Open the card retention door on the back of the computer and remove the filler bracket for the card slot you will be using.

  • 4 Place the internal modem card into the appropriate card slot and press it firmly into place. Close the card retention door. Replace the removable cover and return the computer to an upright position.
  • 5 Connect one end of the telephone cord into the LINE port on your internal modem card; plug the remaining end into a telephone jack. If desired, connect a telephone to the internal modem card via the PHONE port.
  • 6 Reconnect the power cord and all previously disconnected cables. Plug the power cord into an available electrical outlet. Turn on the computer. If any installation software came packaged with the internal modem card, run the program and follow the onscreen directions. Your internal modem is now ready for use.

    Missing soft modem driver

    Select CONTROL PANEL
    Select SYSTEM
    Select DEVICE MANAGER
(This will show you all your computer's hardware and peripherals)
    Locate your modem "MODEMS"
    Not listed?-Defective or no power.
Listed? right click it, see if it is DISABLED
Then, right click it again, select PROPERTIES
    (Yellow triangle indicates error)
First tab GENERAL shows if it is working properly.
Then click on DRIVER tab to see if you just need to update the driver, or roll back to a previous driver.
Third tab DIAGNOSTICS can help determine if it working properly or not.

    Hope this helps

I installed a network card in my Everex GA 3400 so I can get on the internet to reg. ( What does it mean Failed Digital Signature or Windows XP Logo Test). Is it my card or my PC?

Most drivers do not have a microsoft digital signature it should install OK unless you have prevented your PC from installing unsigned drivers.

Your XP's system policy for driver signing can be reached from the Driver Signing button of Control Panel->System Properties->Hardware Tab

    80d39c6.gif

I always leave this is ignore as most drivers don't require this to work correctly

Please dont connect a cable modem to an internal modem.

These are not the same types of device.

you need to connect from the cable modem to the ETHERNET port.

They look similar but ethernet is slightly larger.

Dont use a telephone cord for the ethernet connection it is the wrong one.

Can't find a specific model for the ethernet/usb port on the everex GA 3400 CPU my friend has. need drivers for it, but none seem to be available.

Go into system information(if your running windows) and see what information it has about the chipset(for usb 2.0 controller) and ethernet information. If you can identify the manufacturer name of the board, chipset, and ethernet controller that will lead you to the proper drivers to download. You might be able to open the case and actually see the name of the board maker on the board. Everex does not make the motherboard and I noticed they do not even have a website available for driver downloads. It is a amd board with built in Nvidia graphics so it may have a nforce chipset. Identify the board model and manufacturer then goto their website to download the drivers.
