Go to the device manager, Uninstalled the device and then restart the computer. The driver will get installed automatically and then it will work again.

You can also uninstall the updates and then check. If its a problem with Windows update then dont install the updates for the time being. Wait for more patches to be introduced from Microsoft.

Thanks

Try inserting a Memory card and then check if it appears under My computer. You can also clean the Card reader with a Air spray to make sure the contacts are clean.

If you can send me the Model no. of your Laptop I can check for the same. Since its a laptop and I guess the card reader is an internal one.

    Thanks

Ok. In that case you need to reinstall driver for Intel Chipset.

Please click on this link http://support.gateway.com/support/drive...

You have to enter the serial no. for your computer and download the necessary drivers and reinstall it. Also send me the serial no. so that I can look for it.

    Thanks

If you have Integrated Graphics, you will need a Aftermarket Graphics Card to install in a vacant PCIe x16 slot. If it's a PCI ATI Graphics Card installed in your machine , Unplug the computer, remove the ATI Graphics Card and clean the card contacts ,using a can of Electronic Contact Cleaner, reseat and reconnect power and the monitor cable, reboot.

My gateway desktop does not recognize any sd/xd cards

Either the Card Reader isn't plugged in, or isn't any good.

Repair would be to purchase another Card Reader, but after checking the USB header/s on the motherboard, that the Card Reader is plugged into.
(FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions)

Or you can use an external Card Reader, and plug it into a USB port,

Your keyboard has a problem too. It's stuck in capital letters.

Sd card wont show up on my gateway gt5228

You are missing the drivers for the card reader. They usually come with the chipset driver installation. I looked up your driver downloads on gateway support and it says there is also a driver in the "others" section caller "motherboard driver"

So, what you want to do is go to there site at the link below and download the "chipset" driver and the "motherboard" driver and install them. that should fix your problem.

Card reader removal

Open the case and remove the screws that anchor that device remove and replace with O.E.M. replacement nothing else. Plug it in and power the computer up it should pick it up from there and load the drivers since it will be an original device the driver should not be needed.

Sim card reader not working.

Does the card still work in the device you took it out of? Have you tried a different card in the computers reader?

If the card still works in the device you took it out of, plug the device directly into the computer to download. Then format the card and try to read it again in the computer. If this works could be a format error, if the card does not work in either device, bad card.

If another card works in the reader, put it in the device you are using (digital camera, phone, ect) and put something on it. Then try using the computer reader. If it works great. If not, your device is formating the card in away the computer does not recognize.

If non of the above work, look in device manager and see if there is any ? marks next to anything. If there is go to Gateways website and look for the updated drivers for you computer. This is a good idea anyway, since drives are updated all the time and having current ones help reduce issues.

Hope one of these items helps

Card reader stopped working

go to the pavillion website and download drivers for the card reader (you can find the correct drivers by searching the model or serial number to your machine). install the drivers for the card reader (they prolly dont take drivers, but try anyway) the card reader is most likely defective, or the ide ribbon cable came loose from the back of it.

You will need to flash the graphics bios of you comp. Put the CD that you got along with the Card and reboot your computer and then follow the onscreen instructions to flash it.

Let me know if you need more help!
