OK, here's the problem..

The lightscribe enabled DVD/CD drive seems to have a mind if it's own.

The door opens and closes at random..This happens whether there is a disk in it or not.. It will even suddenly open when it is playing either a commercial DVD movie or C/D music disk thereby interrupting the program that is running....

What to do??

Unplug your unit from power chord for 30 minutes and plug back the power chord to the unit . This will reset your unit .
This problem can be due to bad motor which causes the door to open at random times .

Sorry for First post dont consider that solution I misunderstood the problem .

You go to control panel and check whether the DVD drive status is working or it is hardware fault .

If the status is ok .

Then you try to open the dvd drive and check for any loose connection .

Go to Control Panel>System>hardware>device manager.
Click on + sign next to cd/dvd drives.
Right clik on the DVD drive and select uninstall.
then restart the unit and see if it is corrected.

I would like to install a lightscribe drive , can it be put into the hot swop carrier space witch i don't use

Yes you can add the lightscribe drive to your system as long as you have an open pay (slot) to hold it. If you have a desktop tower, then most likely you have a slot available either right under or above the current dvd/cd drive.

Just make sure your lightscribe drive has the same interface (SATA or IDE) as your current drive or you might need some cable adapters to make it work.

If your system uses IDE (little metal prongs or pins where the cable plugs into the back of the dvd/cd drive) then you want to set the jumper pin on the back of the dvd drive to CS for cable select. If there is a cable ribbon going to the current drive it will have another connection open that you can use for the new drive. Normally the cable ribbon will allow you to piggy back the two drives.

SATA is the latest technology so if your current drive is SATA, and your lightscribe is SATA then look at the two cables that go into the dvd drive already installed. There might be another set that is not being used that you can hook to the lightscribe drive. If so, hook the set to the back of the drive and into the slots on the motherboard.

When I push the button to open the door for thr CD/DVD drive the door doesn't open. The computer sounds like it wants to open, I can hear the motor trying to open it but it won't open.

Hi,
The drives contain the spring like component that enables the drive to open manually and even through the click of the mouse by pressing the eject option.

There seems to be an hardware issue with the drive. I suggest you to contact the manufacturer if the drive is eligible for the free hardware warranty.

My cd compartment won't open.

You can manually open the door using a straightened paper clip inserted into a small hole in the door. Press firmly and the door will be released. You may have a CD stuck in there, or you may need to reinstall the driver for the CD. Or the CD drive may have failed...at least the control part that opens and closes the door.

Can't burn DVD but can burn cd

There is a possibility that the laser of the optical drive is not functioning anymore to write dvd. This is what you have to do.

Click on Start
Click Run
Type regedit and press OK
Registry Editor windows will come up
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
CLass
{4d36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

on the right hand side, delete "Upper FIlters" and "Lower Filters" you may see on it. Everything that has something to say on upper and lower filters.

Close the Registry Editor and then Click on START, right click on My Computer and then select Properties.

Go to Hardware Tab and click on Device Manager
click on the (+) sign of the cd/dvd rom and right click on the item below and select Uninstall.

Close everything and restart your computer and try burning a dvd

***remember to use burning software since windows XP explorer could not simply burn data using the Explorer it self.

Lightscribe dvd/cd super multi drive electing all by itself.

It may be a hardware problem. If it starts ejecting as soon as you switch on the system i.e. before booting into the operating system then it is definitely a hardware problem. Take the drive to the service centre and get it fixed. Or if it happens when you are using windows then it might be a prank program or a virus. Check your running processes and make sure all are right. (You can google the process name and check the results)

HP DVD 635 - auto tray open

no ghosts, you either have something jammed up inside of the drive which is keeping the door from closing properly all the way or the door itself is defective.

Either way you would be better off replacing the drive with a new dvd-rw cause the drive would be up to date and the problem with the opening door would go away.

Is it compatable with my desktop pc?

Ok. Well basically CD, DVD and Hard Drives are all cross compatible platforms so you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. If your asking me to choose I would say that you remove the CD writer instead. But before you do this make sure you have enough extra sockets in your motherbaord to plug in your Pioneer DVR-1910LS 20x DVD±RW IDE Drive w/LightScribe if your CD Writer uses IDE interface your inluck coz you can use it in place of the Pioneer DVR-1910LS 20x DVD±RW IDE Drive w/LightScribe, but if it isn't make sure you have a spare IDE socket in your motherboard. Simply remove the side panel use a flashlight and see if there are vacant IDE sockets, it's usually long in black, white or blue color. see the picture below.

If its vacant follow the steps on the link below simply copy and paste the link on you browsers address bar.

Lightscribe enabled drive opens

Sounds like there might be debris that is keeping the door from closing all the way properly so when that happens it can make the door open up from time to time.

IF you don't have debris, could also be that the mainboard inside of the drive is going bad and causing the door to open and close on its own.

Change out the drive with a new one cause not only will that take care of the door problem but you'll have a new laser in the new drive and will last much longer.
