Problem with novar control board

Went to a family dollar cause they said the alarm went off and they could smell burning...so when i went out there, the only thing i could do.. because i didnt have a tall enough ladder to get on the roof, at least not at the time...so i checked above the drop ceiling and could only get to where two piece's of flex came down through the roof along with a piece of sqaure duct going through the roof also..with a novar control board mounted to it..with i think it was 6 or 7 wires total on the board and three wires connected to the alarm.. but the fuse inside the board was NOT blown...thats the only thing i could see at the moment.. any suggestions? i thank you for your help

Call a professional! Novar control systems can be connected to HVAC,lighting, alarms, etc. Guessing or trying to fix something if you are not at least familiar with the control system can cause more damage than you are willing to pay for. sometimes in life it is just as heroic to know when to put your hands in your pockets and slowly back away.

Gas appliances emitting odor

Sounds extreme but give your local Fire Station a call. They will be happy to break the monotony of the day at the fire house and come to your house with a sniffer machine. It will tell what the odor is? Then get a furnace engineer to check over and service your appliances.

It sounds to me like you might have a blocked flue, and that will cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

Let me know how you get on.

Ventless gas log odor

kINDLY HELP WITH a description of this odor. If it is setting off your smoke alarm the flame or combustion is not complete or thorough. Are these new loggs or previously used without problem? Is the flue open on the chimney? The venting is apparently very poor if at all and the house is fulling with fumes. Turn the gas off, Open up the house to clear the air and check the flue, making sure it is open. Be safe.Ned

Burning smell from oil heater

Pull the controls off the front, and inspect the thermostat connections to see if they are burned up,also the other switches will do the same thing. If you can`t see a problem, then the element is burned out, throw it away and buy a new one.

Electrical burning smell in house

Mhenn, It is my guess that the 'electrical burning' smell is from your heating system. Since there is no smoke and the walls are not warm.... then there is no real problem. The smell maybe just dust has collected in the duct work that is burning off the central heating systems electrical heat strips. If you have electrical heat strips then that may be the problem. If you have a central gas heat system, it may be the same type problem. Hope this helps you. Henry
