TV screen fuzzy & blurred only on local channels

The TV is connected to cable and all cable channels are clear and crisp; however, 2 of our local channels (there are 4 local channels) are so blurred and with lines that we can barely see. New cable cord just installed, but no better. No cable box and all channels go through cable. Any suggestion to fix problem?

Cable company suggested the new cable cord, not better.

Try plugging that cable into another TV. Depending on the size of your sets, that may be easier said than done. Most likely, it is the TV, but you won't know until you hook a different TV up to that TV-Outlet.

Let me know what happens.

Good Luck,
Simon.

If after hooking up a different TV and you find it still does it, it could also be the outlet.

A lot of times, when cable is hooked up, people take short-cuts and only split the main line with a non-powered splitter.

Generally this would result in all of the channels being blurry, but I have had enough problems around the house to know that every little tip counts.

Hi,

Offhand, a possible case of RFI (radio frequency interference). This could be brought about by any devices that uses a mini radio transmitter or operates on radio frequency. This could be any of the many devices in a home such as (but not limited to) wireless phones, lamp dimmers, electronic ballasts.

Incidentally, if the "2 of our local channels (there are 4 local channels) are so blurred and with lines" are below Channel 7, say 3 or 4, then one of your attached devices is causing this. It could be your DVD or VCR. Additionally, it could be one of the other TVs causing the RFI. Pls try:

  • switching OFF DVDs and/or VCRs or even game consoles while watching cable TV;
  • remove the coaxial cable connectioon of the other TVs to determine which is the source of RFI.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

As you have 5 tv sets and all of them are working fine except this TV in that case the problem lies in the TV set. The frequency for those channel in your TV set needs to be checked. Try manually adjusting those channel by increasing or decreasing the frequency using the remote. If this doesnt work contact a local mechanic for the TV set to get repaired.

Thanks

I think there is some frequency cross over .
So that you are not able to get those two channels properly.

try to switch the cables from one to another and see if the problem persists. check also the splitter device that splits the cable connection.

Trying to hook up a digital antenna but no channels coming in

You need to get a connection from a local cable or wireless service with a set top box to be connected to the input. Please check with your local operator and see if the set top box is needed for the digital feed.
Otherwise you might need a dish with the LNB to be used to the TV. Digital tuner means that the tuner is working to scan and memorising the full band width of the channels with digital processing and thus faster and crisp.
Check the details of the TV from a forum:

Channel three is missing

Hi pasu, Normally if you can get/program Chs 2 and/or 4 as well the other channels, then Ch 3 should also be programmable. If this is not possible, perhaps you can try to manually program by selecting "03" and add to the memory "+" in some brands/model. If this is still a no go, perhaps you should seek the services of qualified professional since this would apparently be an internal software problem. You can also try a hard/full reset by unplugging the TV from the mains for couple of hours or as prescribed by your TV's user manual. If the TV has Video input features, a possible temporary work around the TV's Ch3 problem is to use the Video1 or the Audio/Video INput of your TV and use an old VCR to connect to your cable box. Remove the coaxial cable from your cable box to your TV and connect it to the RF/TV INput of your VCR. Use a 3 way RCA to RCA connector (usually Yellow, Red & White) to couple the Audio/Video OUTput of the VCR to the Audio/Video INput of the TV. Select Video mode in your TV (so it doesn't matter even if you cannot program Ch3). Power up your VCR, select Ch3 in your VCR's tuner. I assume that to select channels you wish to view, you use a remote and channel selection is done in your cable box. What worries me is "...went to a fuzzy black and white screen..." which is indicative of another fault. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

I have owned an emerson tv for two years now. All of a sudden the picture has become very blurry and white. It is not the cable connection and a DVD is also white and blurry. Even the input channels are...

you must open the back cover of tv, and then things you should do is set "SCREEN" adjustment on the flyback transformer. you must turn it counterclockwise to reduce and decrease the level of screen brightness. turn screen adjustment gradually until the horizontal blanking lines disappear from the screen. and blurred images will be sharp again

One channel fuzzy

Tis is an ongoing problem I seen increase alot over the past few months. From what I can gather, all the channels being broadcast over going from the analog to digital, there's no big suprise to anyone. However, the change from analog to digital is changing at a faster rate, so when you look at the TV some channels will be fine and others will have grey lines, fuzzy picture. The only solution-you need a TV with some kind of digital tuner. On the TV itself if the (TV has one) it will say "SD" or "ED" which stands for standard digital or enhanced digital.

Tv only has select channels

If you have a good cable signal connected to the TV and it receives channel 50 nice and clear but all lower channels have nothing but snow, then the tuner is defective and needs to be replaced. This is quite an easy thing to correct. Sometimes resoldering all connections inside the tuner will bring it back to life, but in either case the set should be serviced by a qualified tech.

RCA 32V420T 32" TV

This RCA set uses the CTC187BD chassis. Look on the back of the set and to the right of the cable connector you will see 2 controls sticking out, one on top of the other. The top control is for focus and the bottom one is screen, or overall brightness. If these controls have been turned clockwise then you will have a bright, fuzzy picture with white lines (retrace lines) through it. Tune in a channel with white letters on the screen and turn the top (focus) control until the letters are crisp and sharp. Go into the menu and turn the contrast and brightness all the way down, and then turn the bottom control (screen) until you can just see the picture, just above the point where the picture is too dark to see. Go back into the menu and reset the contrast and brightness and the picture will be back to perfect.
