Question about Compaq Presario 1700 Notebook
Hi, I just bought myself a Compaq Presario with a cracked screen and no power adaptor. I purchased a screen and replaced it. I tried a 9v adaptor to see if I could getanything from it but no luck. I finally got my19v adaptor and turned on the laptop, only to be faced witha white screen. The laptop wont show anything else, no BIOS or anything, I dont hear any beeps, wont switch to an external monitor when i plug one in, DVD drive will spin and seems like is trying to load when I put a live CD in, have changed processor, same problems with battery in and out - battery doesnt seem to charge as can only power on with cable. Im stumped, but have a feeling the motherboard is scrap - please dnt let this be lol. Any help would be muchos greatful ! Thanks Keith
Typically I have found that it is a connector that is the problem. You're getting power (lights the screen) but you aren't getting a digital signal (Screen Memory Map & Desktop). Check the mylar ribbon cable on the left, that is going under the hinge. Upon close inspection I found mine had cracked connections. A quick dab of solder corrected it. Not allowing the iron to rest on the mylar long. If you have one of the older models, and using a pin connector, check the leads, and make sure it is seated correctly.
